Ebooks or paper books?

Contributor: Voir Voir
E-books are more cost efficient and accessible and save space B| If i really like a book I may buy the hardback version if it's worth it... but for the most part I'm more about utility I'd rather be able to carry around my 3000 books on a single device than try to find shelves to fit them all in xD

It depends. E-books are lifesavers if you're looking to save money on college textbooks, but I've had issues with their customer service in the past.

I wouldn't mind e-books for some things, but I can't afford the equipment.

I miss paper dictionaries. I should get a nice one. gone are the days of looking up one word and happening upon a cool word that you flipped by. I tend to look things up on line these days.

Ah the great publishing debate. I've discussed this in essentially all my publishing courses over the past two years. Paper books will never go out of print, and I don't think e-books are making as much headway as expected. I got an e-reader as a present and have never once used it yet.

A few months ago, I'd have voted for paper! In Dec. my lovie bought me a Kindle for Christmas and my mind has changed! I actually am torn. I HATE the outrageous prices to buy Kindle books. I mean, sure you can get the cheapies, but sometimes you want specific titles and authors. I'm pretty particular about what I read. I'm a HUGE Mary Higgins Clark fan, my favorite author and I can buy her books in my area for no more than $2. I've gotten about 13 of her books for free, not including the other wonderful books I've gotten for nothing or less than $2. I'd MUCH rather read on my Kindle for many reasons, but buying her books as well as every one of my fav authors will cost me at least $7. Rarely have I found any of my fav author's books less than that. I hate it. It's hard to buy them when I can get them on paper for so little. I give our local Christian bookstore first dips on ALL of my books and in return, I only ask for discounted books. Usually he gives me as many as I want, but I usually make him take a few bucks anyways. Still, that's a lot cheaper.

The price differences are the only reasons I ever choose paper over Kindle! I find the Kindle much easier. I do my reading in bed or in the car and it's hard to hold on to a paper book for 3 hours at a time while laying in bed. It's also much harder to see the words than on my Kindle. I can read on my Kindle in the car and can't with paper back. I like being able to read my school lectures and assignments on my Kindle while running errands or riding in the car. I can just pull the Kindle outta my purse and sneak a few pages in while we're waiting in line at the drive-thru or while my Lovie's doing something. It's so much more convenient and easier for me. I only wish the prices of the books would drop to a decent price.

Is it worth it? Absolutely! If you read a lot, it is worth it. This is coming from the kind of person who doesn't like to spend a lot of money and isn't so big on getting all the latest gadgets. I like to have what I need and simply don't feel the need for many of the high priced gadgets out there. Thankfully, my Lovie found it neccessary for me to have a Kindle and I really fell in love with it after having it. Thank God for him! It really is a wonderful thing to have.

for the majority of things I dont mind having ebooks but there are a few authors and series that I refuse to not have in physical paperback. I think my hubby is relieved they came out with ebooks cuz Ive bought over 125 ebooks in the last 2 months and if I had bought that many paperbacks he would have had his office taken over lol

I like the smell of a real book, and to feel the thickness of the paper between my fingers.

I do a fair bit of reading online, but overall I prefer the sensory experience of reading from a real book.

I prefer and I buy paper back. But I have a tablet, so I check out ebooks from the library too.

I see that value of an ereader in the sense that it's much lighter than carrying around a lot of books...but I don't think I'll ever buy one. There's something about turning pages, and the smell, and weight, and the color of books that I would miss. Plus, I spend so much time already looking at a computer or tv screen, I wouldn't want my books to be on a screen, too.

I cant even fathom reading a good book on a computer. I have to feel the book in my hands. Makes it more of a personal experience.

Paper books--so far. For me, books are a sensory experience. I love the weight of a book in my hand, the smell of the paper, flipping through the pages, etc. I also love browsing used bookstores; there's an appeal in both getting a good deal and the sense of discovery, as you never know what titles you'll find.

I could see e-books being useful for those titles you may not want others to see you reading, though. I have been thinking about that lately...

I read more ebooks, but I prefer paper books. Holding my Kindle is not the same as a book. Although, then I end up with tons of books since I had a hard time getting rid of them (after awhile, I end up donating them because it gets overwhelming).

More and more I am using a Kindle to read books (even library books), but I do enjoy it when I find some long-out of print book that's not available in e-format, and read it the old fashioned way.

I like both for different reasons.

We lost power a lot due to hurricanes last year. At night my iPad was easier to read instead of hooking a book light on a book.

My iPad is easy to tuck in my purse and pull out and read while standing in line. (I buy inexpensive purses and bought one big enough that my iPad fits in it.)

Yet there's something great about curling up with a book.

I'd say ebooks, takes up less space, and I don't have to worry about damaging them. Wish the price would go down on them though.
