For those who have seen AND read the Hunger Games trilogy...

Okay, so I normally am not into this genre of novels (I'm more like an Arthur C. Clarke kind of girl) but I really liked the characters in the movie and I had a question.

Would I be confused, behind, or otherwise regret my actions if I just SAW the first movie and then READ the second (and maybe third) novel? I know that with some movies (Lord of the Rings) this is a BAD idea, but my boyfriend skimmed the first novel and said that it's very light and almost identical to the movie.

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to your responses!

No, either wait for the second movie or read the first book

It would be fine, BUT, you'll be missing out on quite a bit in terms of how the characters think. The first book is personally my favorite, so to me, you are basically skipping the best book.

I read the book after I watched the movie and although the movie was good, the book was better for me in terms that you could get into the head of Katniss and the relationship between her and Peeta made more sense.

I would wait and read the book. I felt like the movie left out a lot. The movie was good but not what I expected. It didn't really show much of the relationships between the characters and some of intense scenes I wanted to see were left out. It really is a great book and a fast read. You should have no trouble getting into it and getting it read.

I would recommend reading the first book. It was definitely my favourite of the series. There aren't any huge plot changes, but like most adaptations there were a lot of details left out. My boyfriend didn't read the books and after we watched the movie I explained some things that were in the book and it helped parts of the movie make more sense to him. So if knowing extra details from the first book makes the movie make more sense then I definitely think it would mage the other books make more sense.

Hahaha, wow! If all of you are saying to read it I suppose that's what I'll have to do! Thanks for all of the opinions and convincing, guys. I'll go see if I can pick it up at the library or something.

You do get the main plot in the movie, but there's a lot of other cool stuff in the first book that just adds to it. It woud be a injustice to yourself if you didn't read it.

Plus, it goes by. It's a smooth read

I recommend reading the first book. It gives you a lot more details than the movie.
