vampires and werewolves.

Why are vampires and werewolves the "in thing" right now? I understand that those books came out with the sparkly ones, but the real deal vamps are so much better. How did sparkly lovey vampires become cool? What is cool about them? From those of you who like the newer vamps and werewolves, can you explain to me what is so great about them?

Wouldn't have a clue. I theorise that vampires were already heavily romanticised (and sexualised), it's deemed acceptable that it's taken further in those books because that's already what the core audience imagines them as, i.e. being ravaged by a pretty vampire.

The "Twilight" books were written and directed at a young audience, teenagers more specifically. Maybe the author is trying to get a message across to teenage girls "under that big tough exterior lies a sensitive person" oh and the bonus of sparkly crap. Watching the movies definitely makes me feel I am in some sort of high school teenage cry baby drama lol. Oh you know how life is just soooo hard then.

I'm not sure what really kicked off the whole vampires/werewolves thing though. I have always watched the stuff that came out before the big hype. But I think it was slowly building up and eventually with Twilight book releases, it was something that could relate and be directed at the young teenage audience rather than all us older people who like the traditional stuff

I really like the True Blood vampires. While yes, they are pretty, there is also the violence as well. *purrs* Sparkly vamps....aren't.
