I probably won't be an early adopter, but I'll get one as soon as the bugs are fully worked out. I used to love driving when I lived in a place with light traffic, but now it's just a chore.
technology would reduce traffic accidents and fatalities by 90%
--that's about 30,000 lives saved each year (and 2 million injuries prevented). And the technology will only get better, reducing even more accidents and saving more lives. No matter how much someone enjoys the freedom of the open road, it's hard to argue against saving that many lives.
Add in the HUGE cost savings and the freedom to concentrate on more interesting things than some jerk who can't be bothered to turn off their damned cellphones (etc) and I'm sold.
