Do you date for FUN or to find a SPOUSE, or are BOTH always on your radar?

We had our usual CLOSE friends dinner on Friday Night at a local eatery (we go somewhere different every week....four to twenty couples). All have college age kids or older. A BUNCH had their college kids with them, since it is summer break, and so the kids were in on our more "tame" discussions, and we were surprised at the number who said they date for "FUN", often dating those they "KNOW they would NEVER want as a marriage partner". IN the "olden days" (we all range from about late forties to mid sixties), when WE were dating, you ALWAYS at least considered "dating was a way to find a spouse". We ALL agreed on this, but realize it may well NOT be the way things are now. What about YOU?

I don't really date for fun. I do have fun when I'm dating, but dating to me is just part of the quest to find that other half of you.

When I was dating it was for both - to have fun but also to find a spouse. I am so glad to no longer be in the dating world though. ~WHEW~ lol

I date a person who I am with. I enjoy taking a partner of mine out on dates, like to restaurants or museums. However, dating to find a potential mate, I do not enjoy that much. I suppose that I am far too jaded for that.

I enjoy dating for fun, and I find my man could defintely be a potential mate. We have discussed the future, but we still are young. I like having the amound of committment we have right now, and hope that he can be my future spouse.

I'm...well, I am trying to find a long-term partner. I'm not the kind of girl to have flings with random people. But at the same time, I'm trying to hold back from latching on to whomever I'm dating and thinking he's THE ONE from the first date. Because then I'm just setting myself up to get hurt. It's not healthy to get that clingy.

I don't date people I know off the bat I won't gel with (like, say, the super-athletic type, as I'm a bookworm and not athletic...I'd like to have some areas of overlapping interest.) Some people might say I'm picky, but I have...certain areas I won't budge on. They're not all-encompassing, nor do they describe one particular man. Like...my partner has to like ferrets (I have them, and will always have them) and he has to at least be okay with me having sex toys (I've had some girls come into the shop and say their partners forbid them from having toys, or lock the toys up so they can only be used when he's with her...I mean, really?!) And I'm not into being used as a fucktoy while he gets over another relationship. No thank you!

That being said, I try really hard to live in the moment and have fun with whomever I'm dating for however long it lasts. I do believe that there's something to learn from every person we meet, and I want to be open to that, instead of focussed on wedding plans after our first coffee date.

I do it for fun, but I do have some consideration for whether this would be a long term thing
