Have ya'll been getting these messages too?

Contributor: K101 K101
I have two questions. Yes, ya'll know I always start a discussion or poll and end up with way more than just one question

My first is:
Have you been getting a lot of "go vote EU on all my reviews if you want me to vote EU on all yours." messages lately?

The reason I ask is because I have had several. I often get people asking me to vote and read their reviews, but never an "if you give me EU ratings, I'll return the favor." I will always read and vote if someone asks, but I think it seems a little... unethical to vote EU only for an EU rating in return, especially if the person's review is NOT worthy of an "extremely useful" rating.

A lot of us work very hard to include EU reviews so I kind of got annoyed after getting more of those messages asking me to just rate them EU today. I don't mind doing favors like reading and voting. I usually feel honored when someone asks me to read and vote. I will do so, but if it isn't an EU review, I'm not going to rate it that because it isn't fair. My reviews, I feel I do an EU job on, or at least I try my booty off too. I'm not going to give someone else a good rating ONLY to get one in return and I feel like if the person actually will give an EU review, they won't have to send messages to different people asking for that rating.

To put it briefly, I don't think it's really a fair thing to do, and I think it's unfair to other members who work hard for their reviews.

Do you?

2. Would you or have you went ahead and just gave the people EU's for one in return?

Thoughts? Please be honest.

I have not gotten any of these messages.

I admit it. I have joined in the "you give me an EU rating and I'll give you one" whether or not it was earned.
I send/have sent messages asking people to rate me EU for one in return.
I think it is unethical. You should only vote EU if the review is truly deserving.

It's not that big of a deal. If someone asks me to vote them EU, I'll do it whether or not the review is worth that rating.
It's NOT unfair to other reviews if you join this "game."
It IS fair to everyone if you join in and rate EU's for anyone who asks, no matter if the review is deserving.
I am indifferent/do not care.

Other?
Oh hell no! Just let me tell you how I feel in the comments section.

Well, if I was getting an EU rating in return, it would be tempting!

Dear Kendra30752:

I am the Ruler of Imagination Land and my three rich husbands and mistress just kicked the bucket leaving me with oodles of cash.

If you give me all your socks, I will share my oodles of cash with you.

Sincerely...
Ruler of Imagination Land

Whoops!!! I forgot to change my log in person!!!

I've never seen this here on EF happen before, this is the first time I've heard of it, but I am not really surprised that it happens.

I find it highly unethical and just rude to ask someone to vote a specific rank if I've already asked someone to read my review.

But then again, I also find it a little rude that people ask others to read their reviews. I mean, why would I read a review on say a pair of stockings when I am not interested in stockings? Now if a person were to ask for something specific... and reviews were offered that is another story.

If I ever someone were to ask me to do that, I'd just forward that message onto The Powers That Be then laugh into the ether. Did I spell that right?

I have gotten two. What also gets me is the "please vote for my upgrade" messages. I do not feel like an upgrade is that unimportant. If a person cannot be upgraded via the quality of their reviews--then deal with it and improve. Sorry--went off on your tangent.

I will not respond, vote or read the reviews mentioned in the two requests. It is so childish and is complete bullshit!! Get your rating on your own damn merit and hard work or quit reviewing--that is my opinion. So--off the soap basket for me, thanks for bringing this one up, Kendra!!

I have gotten the upvote messages too. I don't like them. It feels spammy, but I just ignore them.

I have not received the EU vote exchange ones. I think it is completely unethical.

I've gotten a few messages like that. It's annoying but I have just been ignoring it so far. If a person sends me more than one I'd probably contact someone about it.

I agree that it's unfair and annoying. If you want an extremely useful review, put in the work like the rest of us. I am also wondering if choosing not to do so would negatively affect your reviews, since some people can be pretty childish and retaliate.

I received one yesterday; I reported it to the admin because--besides being tacky and in poor taste--it minimizes all of the hard work that we do as reviewers.

I haven't received any, but that's crazy! I've been scared sometimes to rate a review what it deserves because I'm afriad that they're going to read through mine and vote lower than it deserves because I voted lower. That might be stupid of me to think, but that's the only issue I've been having. (sorry that it's slightly unrelated).

I've gotten the upgrade messages too. I don't vote for anyone to get upgraded, because I peronally feel everyone needs to go through the mentor program but that's my opinion.

I received one and just deleted it. It said something along the lines of " vote *extremely useful* for me and I'll do the same for you". Then I came across this posting. I guess I could have reported it, but I didn't.

I got one asking for me to vote on their reviews and that they would vote on mine back. So I voted what they deserved and have thoughtful, positive critique. And then they gave me a bunch of SU votes on my reviews OUT OF SPITE! I was livid! I sent a message explaining that that's NOT how we do things and that I did them a favor by doing what they asked for.

I never thought to contact an admin about it. Is it too late? I mean, they eventually told me that they just voted out of spite, and I feel like an admin might be able to explain why that's wrong better than I could, as well as how their initial message was improper, as well.

I'd be pissed if I got something like this, honestly, I think it's a little forward to message someone just to ask them to read your review. Your comments on reviews are great Kendra and you can really tell that you put a lot of thought into them there's no way you should just vote EU

I haven't received anything personally.

Though I will admit that I tend to give reviews a slightly higher rating when the contributor is new and just started.

Also, I have a couple of friends who tend to rate my reviews. I don't know where this falls, because we do tend to rate each other's things. But we don't always give each others EU's (but we never give below Useful's either). These are people I've been friends with since grade school, so I could this as different (maybe it isn't, who knows?)

I don't know, I wouldn't do it personally just to get more votes. Because then you can't rate reviews how you want. You're kind of "gagged" to rate higher for fear of your own reviews getting maliciously ranked lower.

This is the EXACT reason I ignore requests like that. Usually the user who requests things like this is not a high quality reviewer. I just KNOW people that are desperate enough to spam message for votes would be the same type to downvote my reviews because I voted honestly on theirs.

I've been contacted with the "vote EU and I'll do the same" messages as well. I report these to admin immediately (as everyone should do!!) because it's completely unethical and, as mentioned, undermines everything that those of us who work hard on our reviews do here.

I will, however, message back and say that it's frowned upon to do such things and recommend the mentor program if they want better votes. Of course, none of the PM spammers seem interested in this particular route as it requires more hard work than spamming for votes.

There does seem to be a rash of this lately. Hopefully if everyone continues to report those that do it then it will stop. Reviews should be voted based on the quality and that alone.

I've not had this problem, but I've only been writing reviews for a few months, though I've been a member for awhile. I can understand why you're upset, though. The thing that irritates me about this--aside from what you mentioned--is that the people sending these messages would, I guess, withhold an EU rating from a good review if the reviewer ignores their message/doesn't vote on theirs. Honestly, it seems almost like blackmail, and it's just...tacky.

I've gotten this message but it was in an abbreviated form. Basically, it said, "Vote on my reviews and give me EUs and I'll do the same for yours." I've never heard of this person before.

I was really put off by it.

It is highly unethical. I don't barter for votes, either.

Contact the Admins. Retaliation votes are often dealt with by banning. Let the Admin know immediately.

I refused to even LOOK at this person's reviews, because I figured the unsaid message in that message was "and if you don't vote EU, I'll fuck you over." And obviously THAT is exactly what this unethical person meant.

Eden needs to do a ban AND an IP ban on this person so they don't come back in an other name.

I did last night and I was sooooo freaking angry I thought about sending the user a nasty message but I just reported it instead. I wouldn't even vote those reviews "SOMEWHAT useful" because they lack 95% of the information, yet they have EU votes, how is that at ALL fair to people like us who actually DO work hard on our reviews for our votes?!

I agree with P'Gell, they need to do an entire IP ban on these people!

I voted earlier this morning that I hadn't gotten one, but I just got one a couple of minutes ago. I guess they're just going through all of the contributers. That's really too bad because probably in the time it is taken them to message everyone, they could have written a great review that would have received some EU votes.

The person still has an active account. I know most who work at Eden have weekends off, but isn't this kind of an emergency, since the person is using retaliation votes for people who DON'T vote their reviews EU?

Can't an emergency ban be instituted?
