Pictures - How do they affect my review rating?

Thank you js250, for a response that wasn't full of double talk and bullshit.

At least the reviewers are being honest!

I don't mind pictures in a review if they're relevant.

I don't think a review should ever be voted lower because it doesn't have any pictures, and reviews that have a few, decent pictures are great. But if the review consists of lots of oversized, blurry, pictures that don't add, but actually detract from the reading of the review, or make it hard to find the text because there's so many pictures included, then I think a vote should be adjusted accordingly.

Not a reason to vote lower IMO.

This. In fact, unless a toy is crazy big or small, I don't give a flying monkey about comparison d=

I also don't use the term "downvote." Most people use it to mean "they voted useful, not EU." Not a downvote, folks.

Kindred -- I have seen some really blurry photos, almost made my eye water. I would much rather see none at all than poor ones.

I would not have voted down for that.

I try to do a size comparison in all of my reviews, but honestly I rely on the 1:1 thing on the main product page when I am looking at a toy. What you use for size comparison may not be available to me, even if it is a common household object.

That being said, I wouldn't downvote someone for using an object I don't have.

I wouldn't actively DOWNVOTE a review for having no pictures, but seeing them IS the difference between rating the writing of a "helpful" review up to "very helpful"

That is to say, the writing and information in a review is what I primarily rate on (If it's great then it gets the highest rating from me) but if a merely okay review has good pictures I might rate it a little higher than "ok" just for the effort.

just sounds like the person wanted a more perceivable comparison.

i wouldnt rate a review down because if it but i can see where they are coming from as well. I just figure its personal opinion so i dont take it too personally.

Well, I know that no matter how good a review of mine is, I get rated way lower for those than I do for ones that include photos.
At the same time, if the blocks of text are broken up by a lot of photos so there's no large chunks of text together, I get rated lower for that too.
It's a little ridiculous.

If they're useful in size comparison or range of the toy I love them.

I dont think that anyone should get down voted because there are no pictures. Some people choose to put pictures while others choose not to put pictures. Good grief the picture of the item that they are talking about is right on the same page, as far as the comparison that is not something that matters either way because if a person gives the measurements its practically the same thing to me.

I appreciate any photo being posted, as long as it makes sense with the review. If you are comparing, that's perfectly fine, especially since you give the measurements!

Not having photos is not a reason to vote a review down. To me, reviews are REVIEWS and unless it's a video review it's not needed to have photos in it.

However, I have to say I was a bit disappointed when looking at the reviews for the Clone a Willie, and none showed a photo of the final product. I can understand why, but would have liked to have seen a bit of the final product, such as the one that said the, um, item being molded hit the tube while being molded and you could see the vibrator from the side. The projects that didn't turn out great would have been just as useful to see as the ones that did.

I agree. Size comparisons next to other toys are awesome, and size comparisons to products that I am familiar with are even better! But why not have both!

My vote has nothing to do with that though. I do admit that pictures can bump a review up to EU where it might just have been a U on its own. Whether people like it or not pictures are extremely helpful, yes.. the product is pictured on the product page but very often I find that products looks differently in person and that's where pictures come in handy.

I can say that there are a few things that will definitely cause me to find a review less useful then it could have been. The first is if a review is difficult to read. The second is if it is full of grammatical errors. Those things bother me because that to me is a sign that they have not taken enough time to re-read their review.

Another thing that will result in a review being voted U instead of EU is if the person leaves out important information.

All in all, I've never rated someone lower than U or SU.

Photos are not required, and many reviews don't even have them, so if the review is detailed and complete, I would never vote down based on lack of pictures or based on any detail in a picture.

That said, in reviews I love pictures! Many pictures! I have thought the same thing before about toy comparisons, that it doesn't help much if you don't have the other pictured toy. But again, I would never vote down because of it. There have been some memorable toy comparison photos recently, and I especially think the photos that compare several glass dildoes are really pretty.

I think that the toy comparison photos would be useful to some people, especially if it's a similar toy then there would be some who own it. The problem could easily be solved by including a ruler or some common object along with the toys.

I also think that suggestions like that are helpful and I always welcome them. I think a private message is the nicest way to send a suggestion, and the person receiving the suggestion can take it or leave it, no obligation to follow the advice or to agonize over it.

I agree that voting lower for images next to other toys rather than something universal like a razor or a soda can is ridiculous. That person gave you a lower vote unfairly.

It confuses me what people find most useful to be honest, because sometimes it isn't as consistent as you would think. I have written some reviews and seen others' where they contain lots of pictures and the same amount of and similar types of information but are rated completely differently. So I think you are always going to get people who give lower ratings than others for one reason or another.

I try to rate reviews fairly based on detail and the usefulness of the information (and pictures and videos are a big plus), and I try to be lenient if it is someone's first review and could use work. I don't know why anyone would enjoy giving someone a low rating.

If anything, pictures boost the original rating, which I personally base on content.

I don't vote.

But for me, I prefer pictures with comparisons of items that can be found internationally. I find pictures with items I cannot think of the size (or remember the size) kind of useless.

But this is how I think and one of the reasons I try to use a couple standard items that can be found anywhere. But if I am looking at a new toy, I usually only read reviews from members I know have a collection or who like the same toys I do for the same reasons.

I don't think I've ever judged a review harshly for not having pics, but I do appreciate them when they are provided and am likely to rate a review higher in spite of how the review was written (a picture's worth...)

Well people are allowed to rate a review as they see fit. Myself, I would not lower your rating because of that. I can visualize size with the measurements given.

I don't vote it down, if there aren't pics. I just need them to be descriptive and thorough. If I need to see the toy, so I know what they're talking about, I can always pull up the product page in another tab.

I always put the maximum rating on a review if it has detailed dimensions of the toy and the photos taken do not affect the rating.
