What Should I Do About Votes on My Review?

Contributor: AHubbyof2SexualMinds AHubbyof2SexualMinds
I try not to be obsessive about ratings on reviews, but we all put a lot of hard work into them and when they are voted low it hurts. I know that everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to it, but there is a contributor who votes on many of my reviews and tends to vote very low. I know that they are entitled to their opinion, but should I contact them to see what it is specifically that they don't like about my reviews? I want to be the best reviewer possible and maybe I can pick something up. Or is this too intrusive?

I've read in numerous other posts that contacting someone regarding their vote on your reviews would be considered harassment and against the rules... but if this person seems to be doing this maliciously, contact an administrator about it.

Thanks, I don't really want to contact them, but I want to make sure I'm being the best reviewer possible. It doesn't seem to be malicious, but I am curious what about my work isn't good enough. I think I'm just going to unfollow them so I can't see what they rated my work. Everyone has their own opinions, ours just seem to differ and it's probably better for my sanity if I don't worry about it.

I had a user who voted somewhat useful on my review that had like 12 extremely usefulls and that was it. I messaged them to ask what I could do to better my review. But I didn't bombard as a direct "what the low rate?". My main concern was that there were new people commonly rating based of the toy, not the review. They also never replied.

That's what I'm wanting, to know what I can do better. I do t want to harass the person at all. Everyone has their opinion, thanks for the advice.

I totally understand where you're coming from! Those 'Useful' and lower votes are hard to swallow sometimes, especially when so many others see the review as being 'Extremely Useful'. I've had to take a step back and just try to let it go. Before I realized that it was considered harrassment, I contacted several people, wondering what more I could have added to my review to make it more useful. I always want to be improving and doing the best that I can, so knowing what made some vote lower for me was important. I've had others contact me as well and I was able to provide them with the reason why, and I thought it was helpful. I would say that as long as it doesn't seem like they're doing it in spite, I would try to leave it alone. As hard as it is, people are going to vote the way they vote. I, personally, think you do a great job and should try to focus on all the 'Useful' and higher ratings you get!!!

Thanks @PoP, I appreciate it. You're a great reviewer and I am glad I'm not the only one who freaks out like that occasionally. Thanks for saying I do a great job, I feel great now and can close up the computer for the night!

I think you do a great job on your reviews. Just read your latest, but system wouldn't let me comment. Sorry but it did let me vote and I voted Extremely useful cause it was!

Despite the fact that you would be doing it in a positive light, it's against the rules to message voters. Even if you just want to know how to improve, you can't do it. I understand that can be kinda frustrating, especially if it's one person voting lower every time.

If you think a person is repeatedly down voting your reviews. Not just useful, but lower and doing it many times, you can contact Jr via email. He will look into it. Especially if it appears to be retaliation voting.

I don't see why anyone would vote you down. So far all your reviews I've read have been extremely useful.

i can see why u might consider unfollowing them. that is actually very big of you. if you think it is malicious you should contact an administrator. it may also be someone who is just more critical than the other voters. perhaps they are that tough across the board.

This is what I have come to realize after being away from EF for a bit because of work. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. The purpose of this whole deal is to have fum, right? Why so serious? When I first stared freelancing, and the work was slim, I had tons of time to spend on EF, all the while looking at my rank and ratings and I got pissed of at the folks who voted me down and the like. I got too bogged down in it. I am now reviewing and interacting with a different mindset. Yes, if it is one or two folks who are regularly voting you down, then report them. If not, then life goes on. You are a good reviewer, and a part of the mentor program. You would not be there if EF didn't think you deserved to be. Enjoy your time here and the fellowship we have when interacting. While high votes are great to get, that's not what it's really about. Have you made friends? Have you gotten new toys? Have you gotten stuff for free? All a win. I love it here, and it's a shame that some folks want to rain on the parade. Keep your head up and brush off your shoulder. Life goes on and so doe sex and so does EF. Don't let someone else's bullshit rule what you do.

Thanks for all of the replies. After a weekend away I feel more clear-headed. I really don't think it's retaliation voting, because the contributor is very good and I always vote their reviews highly. I'm not going to contact them, I did unfollow them that way I don't see what they are voting in my timeline.

And @SkylarrStarr you are absolutely right. My wife said basically the same thing this weekend. It's something with my personality, when I do something I get obsessed with it. I did the same thing when I started my blog and other projects. So I'm trying just to relax and work on my reviews my way, because I'd like to surprise my wife with a nice new Jopen or glass (or maybe both) toy for our anniversary in a few weeks.
