Who do you contact if you suspect someone is reviewing products they don't own or use?

I don't really want to go into details here and I don't want to discuss this other than with whoever it should be reported to.

There is someone that I suspect might be writing reviews on products they don't own or haven't used. I have suspected this for a while (it's mainly bath and beauty products) for a few reasons but now have had at least a couple of other people contact me in the last week and ask me what I thought of the reviews because they were suspecting something was "off" about them - or they were irritated by them, etc. because they were so vague. It's sorta funny because I did not mention this to anyone else so to have people contact me about it...well, it made me think that maybe I was right.

Who do I contact about this? I feel really bad doing this but I'd really like to see someone check this out if only for the integrity of this site!

My only thought is JR? I think. But don't quote me on that, I need to update myself on the directory of the staff and their duties. Hmm now to find that page!

In this case, it sounds like there is a pattern, rather than just 1 or 2 reviews. Since other people are coming to you also noticing this, without you suggesting something is off seems like something is fishy. I'd just approach it diplomatically and provide plenty of examples and reasoning behind why you think they could be reviewing things they may not really own etc. That's my 2 cents, and i'm sure I know who it is.

I would suggest JR or Sammi. Sammi is in charge of the editing program, so it makes sense, to me, that she might be the person to contact. I hope. Good luck and hopefully this works out for the best.

I thought about Sammi but I wasn't sure. I hate to even report this but I've lived with this feeling for a month or so and tried to stop even looking at their reviews if I see they posted any because I felt so guilty for thinking this - now to have people ask me about it though makes me wonder if I should do something.

I think the people have come to me and asked me because we're friends but also because I do write so many bath and beauty product reviews and I visit all the company websites, etc. so I would recognize if something was off (like stating that they had a product in several smaller tubes to carry around with them - but the company doesn't make it that way).

I will probably contact both Sammi and JR.

Thanks folks - I went ahead and contacted JR and Sammi and figured that one of them will either handle it or know who to send it to. I gave them examples of why I was feeling this way and said that now that I was handing this over to them, I was going to go back to not reading this person's reviews and just let them handle everything.

Phew!

Hm...there is one reviewer that writes a lot of reviews, but whenever I ask this person a question about the product - on the review or through a PM - they never answer it. Ever. Now that you mention this, I am wondering if this might be the case with this particular reviewer. No answers because they don't have the product to begin with.

I am sure that Sammi or JR will know how to deal with this. It is possible that I could be wrong also and I'm very open to the idea that I'm just being picky.

To be honest, I had decided earlier to ignore their reviews and it was only when folks came to me about this that I decided that it wasn't just me wondering about this and became concerned.

Oh well - off to write more reviews - I have 8 or 9 ready for next week and have a ton more to work on plus some tweaking to do on some of the ones I've written.

Don't feel bad about doing it, I would want too know who is doing it too. Reason being is sometimes before I make my purchases I tend to use the reviews a lot to help me decide before I buy something. I do this on all sites that I am on. So if someone is being dishonest I would like to know.

Probably the JR guy because I remember a while back someone had been accused of playgiarism and I think he's who "looked into it."

However, I doubt there is much they will/can do about something like that which is very unfortunate because it's really not fair that someone would do that. Quite frankly if someone has to go that far to make up reviews on things they don't own. They have no business here. Most of us are really serious about reviewing and I would think there's no room here for someone who'd scam in such a way. What's the reason? For points?! Then why even be here?

I feel like this would be a huge problem to prove, but I think that I've seen a couple of reviews that you are talking about. I really hope that this gets resolved soon; I really hope that they're just mistaken and/or vague and not pointfarming.

Hi folks! I just want to add something to this thread.

I wouldn't have posted it if I had known for sure who to contact and I'd really rather not discuss this with folks. I've had some folks email me to ask who this was because they have several alerts set or because they had their own suspicions and I will say that I am not giving out the person's name. I didn't do it here and I won't do it privately either. I'm sorry - but I just don't feel comfortable doing it....so I won't be sharing their name.

Let's just leave it in the hands of JR and Sammi please. If you have concerns about someone and think you might know who this is and you have felt the same way - then go ahead and contact them also and they'll know I'm not just being a "bad guy" here...ok?

Thanks. I really appreciate y'all and to those who contacted me privately - I really wasn't trying to be rude. However, I try to live by the rule of "If you can't say something nice...don't say anything at all..." and I just don't feel comfortable giving out names.

I also want to add that if JR or Sammi read this and want to pull this thread once they've read my comments - they are free to do it. I will not be offended if this thread gets pulled - in fact, I will probably feel relieved.

Yup, Sammi and I got your email.

We're the right ones to contact with concerns like this. We'll leave the thread up as a point of reference, in case someone down the road has similar concerns.

I would have automatically assumed JR... and if I sent him a message that wasn't something he could deal with, I'm sure he would have forwarded it to the person who could.

I already know who you are talking about since I follow you and you've commented on numerous of there reviews already, asking them if they even own the products..

I'm sure things like this happen, but it really would be hard to tell if a person does own the product or not. That's one thing that's good about adding pictures of the product!
