Is it okay to store toys from the same company together?

Contributor: Lady of the Lab Lady of the Lab
I want to store two silicone Mood naughty plugs from Doc Johnson together. However I've noticed many reviewers mentioning that toys should be kept separately.

Is it such a concern with toys from the same company made of the same material? And why should they be stored separately?

Here's the material breakdown:

Glass, metal, ceramic, and hard ABS plastic are inert and can be kept with anything without causing damage (though glass can chip if not protected by cloth or padding, and very heavy toys shouldn't go directly on top of squishier ones). I'm pretty sure the same goes for wood, but don't quote me on that since I'm not sure if the finish would cause reactions in other toys.

Pure silicone toys can be kept together. Some people feel safer keeping silicone toys from touching, or only keeping silicone of the same brand together, but if it's truly 100% silicone then it shouldn't be a problem (I myself keep my pure silicone dildos, from several different companies, all together, and there hasn't been a problem). Be careful, though - some toys labeled as silicone are actually silicone mixes (such as TPR silicone) and these should be stored separately. Eden's pretty good with getting accurate material information most of the time, but if you're uncertain then it's best to play it safe.

Most other materials should be stored on their own to avoid having them damage one another.

The finish on wooden toys is linseed oil. Perfectly harmless and body safe (it's what all wooden utensils and bowls are coated with).

I agree. If they're from the same line/company it should be fine to store them together because they're almost always thrown into a big box together at the company.

I've heard that you can also run into issues if the two types of silicone are cured differently, even if they're both real silicone, which is why I usually only store toys from the same company together.

I keep all of my anal toys together, separate from my vaginal toys. I now know to keep my silicone toys separate because I did have an instance where they rubbed together during our move when I stored them in a bag together and they seemed to have melted into each other. It was very strange. Could have been the heat, but I have heard other people say this has happened to them as well, so I keep silicone toys in their own bags now.

Considering even boiling water doesn't melt silicone, I don't think it was the heat - or at least that the heat wasn't the only culprit. That's pretty odd, either way. Unless I really trusted the companies the toys had come from, I'd be questioning if they were pure silicone or mixes.

But you do make a good point about keeping anal and vaginal toys separate. Unless you're boiling your anal toys after each and every use, it's best to keep them from touching other toys so the bacteria doesn't accidentally get where you don't want it to go.

this is all great info. I was always wondering about those jopens with the really close rabbit attachments....wouldn' t it be the worst if it melted to itself just because you stored it on it's side?

I think two of my silicone dildos were cured differently I have the Mistress by Vixen Creations and the Small silk by Tantus; the Small silk texture at the top looks like it has been damaged but I haven't used any silicone lube on it.

I guess from now on I'll store them separately in bags because I know both are 100% silicone. My original query isn't relevant because I am tossing both Mood Naughty plugs.

Mhmm. I've been keeping my anal toys (plugs for now) separately from each other and other toys in small containers. I think using a 10% bleach solution also helps in cleaning anal toys.

I have had toys finish get rubbed onto and discolored, and no I don't recall what brand or if they were a mix or what. I do spend a good amount of money on toys and I see no sense in ruining them because I don't want to put them in another baggie. Really, save the toys!!

There's no reason for that to happen. The Jopen toys use the same silicone, and especially on two parts of the same toy there shouldn't be any reaction whatsoever.

I personally keep all my toys in the same box but in their separate packaging to prevent dust from getting on it. The ones that will melt and destroy your other toys are latex, TPR (and TPE I think), PVC (I think), and jelly when touching each other or silicone toys. 100% platinum cure silicone can touch other 100% platinum cure silicone toys and nothing will happen, but remember that "Sili-gel" is NOT silicone and is usually either silicone and TPR or silicone and jelly.

We dont separate based on brand, but based on material. We have a pretty good sized collection of 100% silicone toys from Tantus, Vixen Creations, Happy Valley and Fun Factory all stored loosely together in a drawer...or two of our toy chest. We've stored them this way for several years. We have had no issues at all. No baggies, packaging or protection at all. I would only do this with our 100% silicone toys from the manufactures that we know and trust. Questionable materials or unknown soft goods are bagged and quarantined to a separate drawer....or discarded. Our glass, and metal toys are laid flat in a single layers in a couple of the smaller drawers of our tool chest mainly so they are organized, easily accessible and don't clatter against each other. Our hard plastic toys are stored loosely together in a drawer similar to the silicone toys. This system has worked extremely well for our oversized collection.

I would not keep them together just in case. Who knows, maybe they change the method of producing the silicone...

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I wrap all my soft toys individually, regardless of material. It helps keep them from touching each other and also keeps them lint free. Maybe it isn't necessary with the 100% silicone toys, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

The company making the silicone isn't the issue. It's the silicone itself and whether it will meld or become misshapen next to other toys.

I keep them together but not touching. I have had silicone toys get damaged by laying against each other and they were from the same company.

I've kept my silicone toys from different companies together for almost two years now. A big part of that is because for the longest time, my ferret had free run of the house, and she liked to chew on rubbery things. I had only so much lockable storage space. I try to keep them from getting too badly squished, though, in case something gets misshapen. I've never had issues with melting or discolouration. Most of my toys are medical-grade or platinum-cure silicone, but I do have one that's sketchy-sketch "pure silicone" (I've seen toys from the same company fail the flame test) and even then, still no issues. I also keep some of my hard plastic toys tossed in there.

I do try to keep my anal and vaginal toys separate for cleanliness, since I don't have the opportunity to sterilize my anal toys after every use. I also have a couple PVC toys, two of which are kept wrapped in their original plastic bags. The other two live on my bookshelf, out of reach of critters. And my glass ones are in fabric bags to keep them from getting chipped. Otherwise, everything just hangs out together.

Material is the most important part. I keep silicone, glass, and metal together with no problems (metal and silicone are usually in protective pouches to keep them from shocks and scratches, but not always). If it isn't 100% silicone then you might have problems, so you need to be more careful.

Physical damage can still occur. If two silicone toys are pressed together and moved against each other the surface can be damaged, but that would be unlikely in normal situations.

As long as they are both the same type of material it shouldn't matter.
