Depends on whether or not the dildo has a flared base. If it does, then you can just sit it under the special flaps and the actual shaft is fully accessible. I've heard that for non-flared, having a little extra length is recommended. The deeper pocket seems like it has some grip strength, but since all my dildos have a flare I can't say for sure, and I haven't tried any of my vibes with it.
