Poll - Pubic hair shaving technique? (Men & Women)

Contributor: Fanny Fanny
coochy cream is the best!
also, if you're prone to getting ingrown hairs, i suggest that you buy one of those japanese wash cloths. It's just a cloth with a really rough texture (rougher than a loofah), and scrub around the areas that you get the ingrown hairs. Just doing this for like 30 seconds every time you shower can REALLY cut down the amount of ingrown hairs you get.

thanks for the suggestion on the exfoliating sponge - I have one of these and never thought to use it that way.

Ingrowns rarely happen with regular exfoliation. Like Fanny said with the sponge or I have the exfoliating gloves. They work like a dream and you can usually find them at walmart for under 5$

I do mostly a side technique.. I really had to think about this. I just do it and have been for so long that I really had never thought about my technique LOL

Diaper rash cream also helps quite a bit as does baby powder.

Have you tried applying baby oil first, and then shaving cream?

I haven't tried that one. What would the baby oil help do?

Baby oil makes the hair very soft, and much easier to shave, when left on for a few minutes. It also protects the skin against razor burn. Shaving cream is still needed, however.

I' not so sure shaving cream is really necessary.

I use hair conditioner - it's the the stuff Coochy Cream is made of - but because it's not sold for that purpose it's much cheaper. The conditioner has a similar effect as the baby oil - softening the hair - but it's also a superb lubricant helping the blades glide along. I haven't used shaving cream for the last 5 years (not even on my face) - and I've saved a small fortune. There's also another benefit - after you are done your skin is so smooth you don't need aftershave balm to soothe your skin.

I use up on the sides, and across towards the middle until it's small, then up again to get it all.

I will usually get it as short as I can with hair clippers. then only use a razor on my shaft and sack. If I use the razor anywhere else I'll get horrid razor burn.

To the side, and then against. A sharp razor is a MUST! And if I've been lazy and there's a bit of growth, I have to go with the grain first.

The trick we've discovered is to NOT use a fresh blade. For our pubic regions we use a razor that he's used on his face for a week or two. Seems to cause a significantly less amount of irritation. After that I wash the shaved region with an Aveeno moisturizing bar. This also cuts down on in-growns.

Have you ever tried conditioner or silicone to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs? The conditioner works for me - I'm experimenting with the silicone now.

I know which parts tend to get more irritated by the razor, and when I get out of the shower I put a little Neosporin on those areas, also if you do it towards the end of a hot shower, the hairs will have softened a little.

I use a combo of all those angles based on what seems reasonable.

To the side of the grain? How would that work on a vulva?

I shave against the grain. I'm Mediterranean, and I have very dark course hair. Going with the grain is like....combing it. The hair doesn't come off if I go with the grain, and I'm not sure how I'd go along side the grain, or along side the way it grows.

I use my B&BW bath and shower cream to shave, or Sliquid Splash (the B&BW works better) and usually do it in the bathtub.

I use B&BW Body Butter and sometimes hydrocortisone when I'm done, and it doesn't irritate a lot anymore.

I usually use the Venus razor with the soap along the sides, with about 4 blades, I think. I also have an Intuition razor (it looks just like a clit vibrator) but it is impossible to shave certain intimate regions with it. It is too big.

Its a combo. If its grown out (like during my period, which I dont shave) then Ill go with the grain to shorten it, then against to get it smooth. When its short Ill just go against. If I just shaved the day before tho, and I shave again Ill get bumps, so its like an every other day thing.

a combo of all techniques. if it is a touchup then downward, if it has been a while then upward.

I typically shave by segments (working top to bottom) and against the grain. Then finish up going diagonally in an upward motion in both directions.

Use all of the above depending on which part of my goodies I'm shaving
