I got mine when I was 11. Woke up bright and early on July 4th to get ready to go boating for the day, and found that surprise... I grabbed my older sister for help, because my mom had told me she didn't want me to use tampons so I had Erin tell me how to use them. I wasn't going to let a little blood stop me from my favorite day of the year!

The Victorian woman usually experienced her first "Curse" at about 16, now the average is about 11 or 12. In developing countries, the average is much older than in Post Industrial countries like the USA and most of Europe, Australia and parts of South America.

I was 10 years old (a month away from my 11th birthday), and in the 5th grade. I was physically active, and a normal weight, for my age and height (I was 5'1 and 90lbs). I started 5th grade with As, left with Bs, then was Cs in middle school, and I'm a small D now as an adult. I was the only one in my class with boobs and a period -- my period has always been regular - every 28 days. The only time I've ever missed a period was when I was on Depo or pregnant.

I had just started 6th grade, so I'm pretty sure I was 11 (would have been ~2001). However, I also had hormonal problems at a VERY young age (started going through puberty when I was 3, was put on hormone blocking shots for the next 7 years to stop it), which were probably related to other health conditions I had.

I think I was 11, but I was possibly 12. We had watched a video about it in school so I felt like I knew what to expect and didn't really think it was a big deal. My mom really made a big deal about it. She cried and told me how proud she was of me and how I was a woman now. Looking back on it is kind of funny.
