Thanks so much for posting that forum! I had my first leak with my DivaCup over night last night, I think I let it get too full. Going through that forum will really help me!

Somehow, I just feel its not for me, and seems like too much work. I am very active and just feel it could be a problem. Tampons work for me.

That's interesting that the Diva Cup is the biggest.

I was so excited to buy a Diva Cup last year, yet when it arrived and I tried it, I was unable to remove it. I kept trying to depress the side of the cup (as the instructions stated) so that I could pull it out, but it was stubbornly and tightly lodged inside me like a strong, inverted umbrella. It would not budge.

I had to get my husband to help me. Even then, it took him about fifteen minutes, and I had to lie on my back on the bed while he struggled and struggled to fish it out. He was furious with me, as though I had foolishly stuck some random thing inside me that I had no business inserting.

As his struggles were met with no more luck than I'd had, I began to fear that I'd have to go to the doctor to get it out, but he finally managed to get it. I've been afraid ever since to try to reinsert it, and my husband has emphatically and angrily told me I'd better not dare! He was so annoyed by the struggle it took to get it out the first time.

I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like for me to struggle to get this out while in public. I can't exactly lie on the bathroom floor and beg a stranger to help me get it out!

Anyway, I contacted Diva about it, asking whether I should have gotten the smaller size since I'd never had children, but they said that the age specifications dictate that I get the larger one and that the smaller one would not work for me. I found this to be baffling. So if I simply can't use the larger one, then I shouldn't use one at all? I wish I could get my $30 back . . .

I've been wanting to get one of these for a few months, but it weirds my boyfriend out. That, and I have a question about it. I have terrible cramping during my period, and have stopped using tampons because the cramps get so much worse when I do. Will the cup have the same effect, or even worse because it's bigger? That scares me a bit

Actually, for me, the DivaCup made my cramps more bearable, and my period easier over all. The Cup works totally differently from a tampon. A tampon absorbs the liquid blood that comes out of your cervix, and any other liquid in your vagina, including natural lubrication, but it can't absorb any clots or clumps of tissue. The Cup just sits in your vagina, and collects everything that comes out - liquid blood, clots, etc. Plus it does not strip you of your natural lubrication. It's almost like the way a pad works (allows everything to come out of your cervix) but with the convenience of a tampon (everything stays inside your vagina until you take it out). And I don't know why a boyfriend or husband should get any say at all over what you use for your period (unless you were thinking of using something dangerous), but that's just me!

@ Selective Sensualist - sounds like your DivaCup was inserted too far maybe. If you can't easily reach it, often that means you've inserted it too far. The instructions I read said that if that happens, just wait because as your menstrual flow fills the cup, gravity will help it come back down in your vaginal canal so you can reach it. When I first was trying mine, the same thing happened. I just bared down with my PC muscles until it was within reach.

I want one really bad.

My periods tend to be light and not very traumatic at all (thankfully) so it's a PITA to keep tampons around.

I keep checking in to it because it seems like it would be super convenient and all. I should probably just try the damn thing and get it over with. What's the worst that can happen. If I hate it I get rid of it and go back to tampons.

I use tampons, can't stand pads. They're a tad on the disgusting side to me. No offense to others who use them, I just can't! I've heard/read about cups and was interested, just not sure. Then a magizine that I subscribe to offered a free sample of the Instead Softcup. (It's a disposable cup.) You can get a sample kit for $2.50 online to try it out . . . instead of spending more on a more long term cup and not using it. I'm waiting for it to arrive to see if I like it. If so, maybe I'll stick with it, or upgrade to a Divacup. I've heard good and bad things about them but I really think it just depends on each female and her body individually.

I (and also my husband) could actually reach it fine. The very tip of it was still protruding from my vaginal opening. It just wouldn't come out. We tried depressing the sides of it, tried pulling on the tip (which is really too short to get a good grasp on it), and even tried pulling on the tip with tweezers to yank it out since trying to depress the sides to yank it out wasn't working. I found myself desperately wishing that it had a hole through which I could thread a thick string or thin cord so that I could just pull the darn thing out.

If I inserted it more shallowly, then part of its conical body (more than just the pointy tip) would be hanging out; this would be quite painful as I already found just the tip of it to be uncomfortable to the labia minora when trying to sit. Plus, wouldn't you be in danger of spilling it if you left the conical body partially hanging out?

I wish I could make it work for me. Would another product be better if the Diva Cup doesn't work for me? I still don't understand why it won't work for me, yet it works for so many women. I also don't understand why Diva absolutely insists that the larger size is the right size for me when I just can't get the sucker out of me when I insert it. It sets up camp and is determined to stay. I'm frustrated.

Ok, I think I understand what you're saying. It may just not work with your anatomy, unfortunately. The good news is that there are MANY different kinds of menstrual cups available, all different sizes, different lengths, made of different materials, etc. So you could always research another one if you really want to stick with it.

A couple other points - a lot of women find the little tip at the end of the DivaCup to be irritating and "pokey". So many just cut it off. It doesn't really help you pull the cup out anyway, so you don't really miss it.

As for not being able to pull it out - that is odd. I wonder if maybe you weren't breaking the suction? Sometimes when I try to pull mine out, I can tell I haven't broken the suction yet because it just doesn't budge. Some of the other menstrual cups are supposed to be easier to get in and out for some people.

This is a link to a forum all about menstrual cups - all the different kinds. maybe you can find some helpful info on there! link

I am very interested in getting another one. The first one I tried was a disposable one (because I wanted to see if I could get used to it before purchasing one). I couldn't ever get it to stay in. I would pinch it and put it in, but it never un-pinched. It just popped right out. Are others different?

if you can use silicone toys, you can use the mooncup. it's 100% silicone. if you've never had a child vaginally you'll be a size B, if you have, you'll be a size A.

making sure to boil (and I leave it sitting in a mixture of vinegar and lemon juice for a day) it between periods, and even on lighter days while you use a pad instead if you prefer, will make sure it stays nice and clean. i can see a yeast infection transferring from period to period if you have one on a period and dont sterilize it between. but as it's perfectly boilable, no prob.

i've never had one pop out, nor have i ever heard of the disposable ones. what brand was it? i use the mooncup, and i fold it basically in half and then in on itself so the top forms a kind of 'C' shape, push it up while holding it about an inch below the rim, and slowly let go. then i run my finger around it to make sure it's fully expanded, give it a twist to ensure it's sealed, and im good to go.

try out a real one. they're about $30, and you can buy from the site or even on ebay, etc.

good luck!

when removing my mooncup, which as i've seen is basically the same as the Diva, i simply reach in there and tilt the top of it forward til it pops out the bottom of my vag, releasing the seal, then tilt it back so that it wont spill and slide it out like a drawer slides out i guess.

thats the best way i can describe it. otherwise you're trying to break the seal it has on your cervix which prevents blood from leaking out, and you can do some real cervix bruising if you just try to yank the suction out.

be careful! and try the drawer trick.

my cramps were less noticeable with the mooncup, but that doesnt necessarily mean yours will be. you would really have to try and see, as it's an individual thing.

i would not call the mooncup any bigger than a super plus tampon.

I can't remember the name. They only folded in once, which might be part of the problem. I'm definitely tempted to try a real one, particularly if they're that cheap!

My menstrual cup just arrived this morning, I've already had my 'monthly visit' recently though so I won't get to test it out for a while yet. I hope it works for me, I don't feel comfortably wearing tampons and the adhesive on pads irritates my skin.

This past cycle was the first time I'd used a Diva Cup, and I'm totally in love! Didn't even feel like I was having my period. I'm never-ever-EVER going back to pads or tampons (though I'm thinking about getting cloth pads for light days). The disposable stuff is so uncomfortable and in the long run quite a waste of money.

Plus, there's something really cool about seeing the blood collected neatly in the bottom of a cup, instead of spread out all over a pad or mashed into a tampon. Really, it just seems so much cleaner that I don't get how the "ew" factor comes in for some people.
