(one yummy way we eat them is to peel them and slice them like you would for scalloped. layer them in a baking dish with some grated cheese (I do 2-3 layers depending on how much I am making), pour in some chicken broth to fill the dish about half way. cover the dish and pop it in the oven for about 45 mins around 350 (until the potatoes are cooked). uncover for the last 10 mins and blammo! *NOM*)
I like potatoes a lot, but when it comes to mashed I really only like them if they're flavored, like garlic mashed potatoes, or sometimes we put oregano in them.
I'm not a big baked potato fan, but I like twice-baked potatoes with spices and seasonings in them.
Poutine is my absolute favorite, but I rarely make it as it is soo bad for me lol. I keep it as a very special treat for those stressful days or days that I feel like indulging.
Yup, you forgot potato chips. But they're actually my least favorite. I loooove mashed potatoes and just like tater tots and fries. but I really try to keep my intake of potatoes to a minimum cause that's a whole lot of starch and empty calories.
I try to avoid potatoes because of all the starch, but---oh!---how I love them!
I love Chik-fil-A's waffle fries when they are fresh from fryer. I haven't had them in so, SO long! I also love Arby's curly fries when they are fresh from the fryer. They are another indulgence I only allow myself occasionally.
I love mashed potatoes---with or without gravy, with or without roasted garlic flavoring, just basically any way I can get them. Mashed potatoes was one of my very favorite dishes as a child and is something I will only allow myself to indulge in occasionally. And I agree with another poster above that you absolutely MUST have peas with mashed potatoes (sweet green spring peas, to be specific). I also love sweet, crisp corn kernels served alongside the mashed potatoes and peas. Add chicken fried chicken and some sweet tea, and you have a most delicious meal. (Can you tell I was raised in a southern state?)
I love au gratin.
I love homemade, shredded hash browns . . . and home fries/skillet fries (so very different from french fries!).
I love tater tots.
While growing up, I loved the potato patties my mom used to make in the skillet from leftover mashed potatoes and green onions. I also love baked potatoes (particularly when it is topped with smoked brisket and barbecue sauce from a top-notch smokehouse, though I love broccoli and cheese, sour cream and chives, and a variety of other toppings as well). I love potatoes that are sauteed along with onions, yellow squash, and okra (which are all dipped in cornmeal beforehand); this is another of my mom's dishes when I was young. I love fritattas that have potatoes in them . . . I love the potatoes that are cooked alongside onions and carrots in a pot roast. I love the potatoes in a homemade pot pie. But I only have the aforementioned dishes in a blue moon. It's been years (decades perhaps) since I've had some of them . . .
I also love sweet potatoes when they are served with cinnamon and brown sugar (or topped with marshmallows and nuts!).
I am sure I am leaving out plenty of ways that I have tried (and loved) potatoes. I think I love potatoes no matter how they are served as long as they are fresh (and not burned or overcooked, of course!). But they are a guilty indulgence for me.
Could someone PLEASE post a recipe for poutine? I don't think I've tried it unless it's one of those things I ate one time but just thought it was an interesting variation of some other potato recipe I've tried.
It depends on what I am eating with the potato...a steak gets a baked potato while a burger gets fries and a sandwich gets chips! Kinda like pairing a wine with your meal...but different!

I voted for tater tots, but the more I think about it, the more I want some Waffle House hash browns. Mmmm..the things I miss about the South But home fries are a pretty good consolation prize. As a previous poster noted, they are not the same as french fries.

Poutine is a yummy French Canadian, calorie filled dish.
It is french fries, covered with fresh cheese curds and topped off with gravy. *NOM*
