Oh, I don't think that makes you a bad reader. It's just that those stories don't do it for you. You wouldn't say someone is a bad listener just because they didn't like a particular song or recording artist? You just have to find what you do like.

I remember you talking about how much you loved Pleasure Bound, so I now own it on your recommendation. It's sitting in the pile to read.

I love reading the introductions to erotica novels. The authors always talk about why they chose to the do the anthology as well as why some of the stories were included. I feel like I get a small piece of their brain for awhile.

Let me know how that is. Or I suppose I can just wait and read the review on it, lol

Pirate Treasure was probably my favorite, and to be honest, I don't remember anything about the "Seconds" story.
"Seconds" is the one that describes the 3 PTO women (who are all unsatisfied in thier personal relationships for one reason or another, and in the brief descriptions, lacking control as well) who quickly seduce and pleasure the man that does the cafeteria planning for the school they volunteer for...I liked it for the sexual storyline, but also because you don't see a lot of PTO moms or school lunch personnel in erotica, and I like things that are outside of the usual, and not what you expect to see.

I don't think that makes you a bad reader at all! Especially when it comes to erotica, I think tastes can be very specific. Speaking as a new editor (Fairy Tale Lust is on on the shelves now!), I can tell you how difficult it is to put together a collection that is varied and interesting and holds to a theme. Not every reader is going to like every story, not every reader will even like every anthology with the same theme. I

In general, I actually prefer longer stories to short-shorts. In this case, FRENZY holds a certain appeal for me because my life is positively crazy right now with a 7 month old baby and a new book out and my own writing deadlines to manage. A few short-shorts in those minutes before bed or during a hot bath are just what the doctor ordered to feel refreshed and sensual. (Also makes for some very sweet dreams.)

It's true. I'm kinda a review-whore. And erotica too. Sometimes I feel like my book reviews sorta sound the same, but I'm attempting to make each one a little more unique. Everyone has their own tastes in erotica, and I want to help a reader decide if the book is for them before they purchase it and get turned off of erotica just 'cause it wasn't their tastes.

Oooh! I saw Fairy Tale Lust. It's on the must-read list right now. Naughty fairy tales sounds fun, and you'll most likely see my review of it on here at some point. Congrats on being published!

You can read before you go to bed? I envy you. If I attempt it, I'll stay up and read instead of actually sleeping.

Exactly! I think our technology overload makes for a lot of sex-starved people with ADHD. Have you heard of the trend in Japan where young authors are writing entire books in text messages? I can totally see a market for that kind of "bite-sized" entertainment here with regard to erotica. Imagine receiving a little mini-story via cell phone every day on your lunch break...

That was my hardest time with reviewing erotica. Everybody has such different tastes and are looking for so many different things about the book before they decide whether or not to get it.

I recently read only the intro of an S/m collection, written by Pat Califia. I was so completely blown away by that one essay, I had more than enough material to just sit and think for hours. I am yet to even get to the stories.

I definitely recommend readers not to just skip through the intros. It can really increase your value for the collection as a whole.

That idea actually becomes all the more interesting if you add erotica to the mix...imagine going through your normal daily routine, whether it be parent teacher conferences, board meetings, going to the grocery store etc., and never knowing when a snippet of erotica will pop up on your phone...just knowing it's coming could be thrilling.

Hahaha, I do that currently. Only its called 'sexting'. And only appropriate for a select audience!

It's true. I just try to mention anything unique. Like I don't mind cheating stories, but "Do Not Disturb" had quite a few, so I made sure to mention it. I just try and mention some of my favorite stories to get some interest in the book too.

I suppose. I think my parents would end up picking it up at a bad moment and cause some problems.

I'd say it's because everyone is living busy lifestyles, so being able to pick up a short story and read it quickly is nice. Plus, shorter stories are more fun to read out-loud to a partner.

Oh, I look forward to your review of Fairy Tale Lust! After 80+ stories in other editors' anthologies, it was wonderful fun to compile my own!

I read for maybe 15 minutes before bed, then I'm barely able to keep my eyes open. I blame the baby. Pre-baby, I could stay awake all night reading a novel.

This is just my theory, but people are busy! A lot of people I know have no time at all to read, and some are just barely finding time to have a sex life - so it only makes sense that the quickie-story is relate-able and enticing. Not to mention that any form of sudden unexpected sex is just plain hot

I'm still jealous. I can't do it. I only can read erotica in the middle of the day or it'll keep me from falling asleep like I should. Granted, I'm like that with regular books too, so it must just be a personality trait.

I'm looking forward to reading it. The cover is gorgeous too.

It's awesome to see how literature is evolving! For instance, people used to write love letters, now they write steamy text messages! Or how about Twitterotica? That's such an awesome idea! Telling a sexy story in 140 characters or less.

Yes! Short-shorts are almost written to be read aloud. They can be like little monologues to your lover.

Playing With Fire had a few that I didn't personally enjoy, but I still enjoyed them from an artistic standpoint I guess?

Making mention of something like stories involving cheating is good because I know of some people that would want to avoid that.

I just can't stand stuff like "oh well I don't like these kinds of stories and there were a bunch of them" lol

Really? I feel most comfortable reading erotica at night, when I'm curled up in bed.
It just feels more atmosphere appropriate to me.

I second this. Also, when you have a shorter story, you can use it as foreplay. I really do love sending off little lust notes to my partner right before he is going to get home, or to work, or to anyplace I want him under pressure and thinking of me. Just as exciting would be to read a select story and see how long you can last before devouring eachother. Which, I'd imagine... may not be too long for some of us. *Impatient*

Oh yeah, it's true. That's definitely a great idea. I knew that reading a hot story was... well hot. But I did not see the advantage of a short one.

If I'm curled up in bed, there's a boyfriend next to me. Who hates light. Or repetitive noises (like turning pages). Besides, I work thirds, so my sleep time is in the middle of the day. I end up reading erotica books around 3AM or so.
