Well, I'm in a long distance relationship, so most of my times are just for me. I have been purchasing toys specifically for he and I to share, though. He will make a comment about something he wants to try, and I try and pick it up before our next visit together, to surprise him with.
Now, he's being very careful about things that he suggests, because he has realized that I do this, and he doesn't want me going broke.

Before online shopping became so easy, we used to go to a store in SF together. Few years back I bought some toys online and she didn't like them. Now I do the research and she makes the decision, if for her. If for me then, of course I chose.

I buy most of the toys and I am a female with a boyfriend. That being said, we probably only have 5 or 6 toys. 2 are mine, 1 was a gift to him from me, and he actually bought my very first vibrator for me. So I don't think it was intentional that I buy them usually.
