Black magic ribbed vibe - textured classic vibrator discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Monday's reprieve

The Black Magic Ribbed Vibe is a toy I did not expect to enjoy so much. The velvety feel and unique shape make it fun for all-over massages plus vaginal and anal penetration. The shape has an interesting feel when inserted into the vagina, but is much more noticeable when inserted into the anus (as always, with proper lubrication) and gives a distinctive "popping" feel. This product lacks a flared base, so if you do choose to use it for anal play, remember to use caution. Although you can use the vibrator for clitoral stimulation, it is a little lackluster for that use alone. This toy is good for novices as well as more experienced users. The size is not intimidating plus the shape and texture can be an exhilarating foray into new territories. The waterproof nature of the Black Magic Ribbed Vibe allows those of us with smaller amounts of alone time to take advantage of those rare moments when we can sneak off for a shower.

While at first glance this product seems like it would only feel like a typical smooth plastic, it will definitely surprise you with its slick and velvety touch. The smallest bulge is 1 1/4" in diameter and each consecutive bulge goes up in size until the final one which is approximately 1 3/8". This toy is a great size for beginners but some advanced users might be unimpressed. So far this toy has been easy to hide. I replace it in the original packaging and stow it away in a mostly unused drawer. No inquiries have yet been made, so this tactic is viable. This toy is not discreet, one look at it and you know its purpose. That being said, the size is small enough that you can stash it in a suitcase for travel, but might not want to bring it in your carry-on luggage for flights.

The vibration function is a nice add-on but probably not the real selling point of the toy. The vibrations are strongest at the tip, and are powered by a single AA battery. The intensity of the vibrations can be adjusted at the base simply by twisting the dial. The dial can be a little difficult to maneuver while using only one hand or if your hands are slippery from lube. This toy is moderately noise and can be heard through a blanket, but not through walls and closed doors. This toy works just as well in water (if not better) than out of water. During clitoral stimulation the vibrations travel through the water as well so if feels like they reach a wider area.

This toy is very easy to care for. Simply wash with soap and warm water, if you choose, you can use toy cleaners/wipes. Be sure to pay close attention to cleaning between the ridges on this product, because sometimes there can be some buildup between them. This toy cannot be sterilized, so if you plan to share it be sure to use a condom. Always clean between vaginal and anal use.

The packaging is not discreet, since the toy is displayed prominently in a window on the front. The window is framed with a pretty purple and black design. This box is not sturdy and will not stand up to much abuse.
The instructions on the package were few and there was no mention of how to operate the vibration function. The toy can easily be seen in the package, so if you want to give this as a gift and maintain some semblance of surprise, wrapping is a necessity. I kept the box and use it for storage to help keep dust and lint at bay.

The first time my husband and I took the toy out of the package we washed it and discussed our surprise of the velvety texture. We turned the vibrations on and traced it along each others bodies just enjoying the smoothness of it. The clitoral stimulation was a bit lackluster, but I was happy for the vibrations just for massage potential alone. A few positions and several orgasms later, we decided that this toy was very fun to keep around.
