Beginner's Crop

This is really the ideal flogger for those looking into BDSM. If you are an advanced user, you probably won't appreciate this crop as much as a beginner. Still, it definitely has some appeal, and the price really doesn't hurt either.

Use

This crop is a flogger that is great for couples that are new to BDSM, and looking for a light flogger. Advanced users, you might not like this so much. Because of it's small size, only 12 inches in length, it is easy to travel with. What makes this even better for beginners is that it is small and not expensive. This won't really be able to deliver a hard, stinging flogging. If you put some force behind it, it will definitely get the job done. If it is real pain or welts you are looking for, this probably isn't for you. Also, this would make a great addition to a costume.

This crop is very lightweight, though not incredibly well-made. Within a few minutes of checking it out, I tugged in the tip of it, and it came right off. My partner instantly told me that that info needs to go in the review, and that this is clearly not all that well-made. I didn't see anywhere that this is meant to have interchangeable tips, so I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do that. Though, I don't really see the tip coming off if your smacking someone with it. Plus, the price comes into play here. It's only $8.99, so I wouldn't expect some sort of hardcore, perfectly built crop. Though, for the price, it's pretty nice.

This is made of (according to the package): ABS plastic stick, Poly Vinyl Chloride, and polyester. It is vegan, no leather involved, so that is a plus. The tip is made of a type of faux-leather. The tip is pretty rigid; it's flexible, but not floppy. It doesn't really have a good "sting" to it when it hits, though you will definitely feel it hit you. It makes a good sound though! This makes a nice, loud (and satisfying) smacking sound. The sound is a big part of the appeal of a crop, for me. So, for beginners, you get that great sound, without all of the pain if you're not totally ready for it.

I notice that in the product pictures, there is an S&M tag stitched onto it, which mine does not have. This has no tags, no loose stitching, and is all black; which makes it look pretty sleek, I think. This crop is only 12 inches, which is almost half the length of a typical crop. According to my partner, that makes it "too short to build up momentum to hurt somebody".

The handle is plastic, and it has a plastic tip that is about an inch long, on the end of the stick. The stick could be better, I feel that it would be better if I could get a really good grip of it. It would be nice if this had a good handle or grip or some kind. It can be a bit hard to grasp and get a good hold of when in use, since the stick is so short and thin, and that plastic end on the tip is barely there. Though all of that makes this a pretty lightweight instrument; it is very light, so it shouldn't terribly bother those with wrist issues. As for that plastic tip on the end of the stick, there is a part of it that I noticed when using it, that snagged on my skin for a second. If it was anymore jagged, it probably could have given me a good scratch on my hand. I tried to get a good picture of it, but it was a little bit difficult. When I said, after thinking this scratched my hand open, that I was scratched by the end of it, my partner said that "nobody would be using that end for anything anyhow". Although, I know that is not entirely true. There are some floggers on the market that have glass ends on them, specifically so people can use that end for something if they so desired. However, I would not try doing that with this one.

Performance

This is good for teasing, foreplay, and light BDSM. If you are really looking for something that will sting when stuck with it, or that will leave marks, this isn't really it. If used with a little force, this would definitely have the ability to redden the skin, but don't expect any lasting marks or welts from this. Any redness left behind from this crop would fade shortly after, within at most 30 minutes probably. This is not an intense flogger. It is not really painful, it can give a nice light smack, and can be felt more intensely if used on more sensitive areas. Still, there is only so much pain this will deliver. As I said, this does make a really good sound. I should add that this sound could be heard through a door, so be aware of that if you have any curious roommates. This isn't really for much else, other than a light spank.
    • Good for teasing

Care and Maintenance

The size of this makes it very easy to store. Because it is so small, it can be kept under a bed, between the mattress, just about anywhere. If you have a place specifically for toys and gear, you could keep it there. This would fit into a suitcase, backpack, or medium-sized purse without a problem.

I'm not sure how well the faux-leather would hold up to being submerged in water, but this whole crop could be wiped down with a wet cloth for cleaning. You could use soap and water, a toy wipe, a microfiber cloth, whatever you wish. The plastic stick would definitely not be a challenge to clean, that part seems pretty simple and easy to care for.

Packaging

The packaging is very minimal, and since it's paper it could be recycled. It is not discreet, since the crop is totally visible, and the info all over the paper makes it no secret what the item is either. It does have a QR code on it, which I can't actually check out since I don't have a device capable of checking those. The package claims that this is good for tickling, which I kind of see as pointless. The fact that is refers to this as a Whip & Tickle had me thinking that the packaging was referring to some other product.

Personal comments

What appealed to me most about this crop was the price. Honestly, I have had my eye on this one for a while now. It has a nice length to it, 22 inches - considerably larger than this crop. Plus, the slapper part on it looks like a nice length and shape. I ended up getting this one instead because it is was only $8.99 - much cheaper than the $19.99 crop that I've wanted. If I had the money, or the points, I would have probably went with the other one. But this one seemed like it would do the job without breaking the bank. Though, they are both by the same company, Sportsheets. This is a brand that I trust, since I have restraints that I've gotten from them that are everything I'd want them to be, and they hold up perfectly. So, I figured that either way I wouldn't really lose with getting a crop from them. However, this crop is part of their Sex & Mischief line, which I hadn't tried anything from. After seeing so many products from that line on Eden Fantasys, I realized they all had some things in common. To me, they all looked very beginner-friendly, more so than some Sportsheets items that could be a little intimidating to a BDSM beginner. The other thing was that all of the Sex & Mischief products seemed to be sold at a pretty low price, lower than many other Sportsheet items. I checked to see if they have a website for this line, and it turns out there is. On it, I found this: "...Most remarkable is Sex & Mischief’s incredibly competitive price point, maintaining 95 percent of the line under a $19.99 MSRP – something never before accomplished by another adult product manufacturer. Sportsheets makes it possible for retailers of all sizes to stock the entire fantasy-inspired line, giving seasoned shoppers what they need and offering something new and exciting to a new consumer demographic. S&M’s advertising and merchandising campaign features black-and-white Vogue-like photography inspired by mainstream designers whose products reflect the same air of sophisticated glamour. Slatwall signage, hanging posters, Sportsheets’ famous digital video frames, and other unique promotional tools are available to help stores truly showcase what makes S&M a game-changer in adult retail." So it wasn't just me, these items are all sold at a pretty low price! I think Sportsheets is really targeting beginners with this line of products, based on the price range and the design of these products, this crop included.
Follow-up commentary
This crop has come in very handy. I've used it for visual effect, I've used it while camming, and I plan to uncorporate it into a costume I'm wearing to a party soon. And, of course, it is an effective crop as well. This is not bad, especially given the price. If you're not looking for some really hardcore flogger, you'll probably find some fun in this. If you want something really intense, look elsewhere.
