Floating Romance

This set of floating candles might look cheap, but used in various ways they can turn a simple few items into looking like a million bucks. Alright, maybe not a million, but they can vastly increase the ambiance of a romantic setting.

Use

Bell-A-Roma's set of Floating Candles can be used in a few different ways but they all produce romance or a nice ambiance in a home. Six are heart shaped voltives are included in the pack. The best part is that they float! The obvious use for these is to have a bubbly bath and use the candles as a mood enhancer in the tub. That is not their only use, however. I like to use them in wine glasses floating in water as romantic lighting. They don't have to be placed in liquid though. You can use them in candle holders or just by themselves as regular candles. They are scented, but the smell doesn't dissipate well. They also don't last very long. Their best use is for short time looks. They are affordable and cute!

Ingredients: These are palm wax candles.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

These candles used to be offered in at least size different colors, only three are still available on Eden: baby yellow, bright blue, and white. The white would be really cute as a wedding party favor or used on the tables. I chose to get the yellow, I honestly can't tell you why I chose that color. It is VERY faint, even more so than in the product picture. This is an issue because it basically makes them look like aged white ones. Ick.

They feel very cheap, but they should since they are inexpensive. They are very light in weight, because they are floating candles after all. The surface is waxy but doesn't transfer residue when you wipe your finger across it. You can feel that the surface is not even, especially on the bottom where it is slightly lumpy. As the candles burn, the melted wax becomes very runny. Be careful if you try to move them!

The candles are very hard and don't cave under the pressure of my fingers.

Taste / Aroma

Don't eat this or attempt to. Okay? They do have a smell, but it isn't strong nor is it lovely. To me it smells like generic hotel soaps with an overly fake flowery scent. It doesn't dissipate well at all even if you burn the candles the entire way. In a smaller room like my bathroom it was slightly noticeable, but this was after three of the candles were burned.

Performance

The candles are about the size of regular voltives but are shaped like hearts. They are about 1 3/4" tall and wide. Their thickness is about 3/4" with an all over rounded shape. The bottoms are not completely flat, but they don't need to be since these are designed to float in water. The wicks are coated in wax and are about 3/4" tall. The package states that they should be trimmed before use. Before each lighting, the wick should be trimmed to 1/4" in length.

They take a few extra moments to light because you have to let the wax coating the wick melt first. If you are going to place these in a glass with water like I do, you need to lit them before putting them in the water. It's easiest this way. Same goes for a tub, although you don't NEED to do it that way for that situation.

I don't like to use these in the tub because the wax easily drips off and goes into the water. It looks wonderful, but isn't very practical for when you enter the tub. They can also float into you and there lies the potential for injury. You can put them in the water and lure your partner to the tub. At that point you can put them on the tub's ledge or something like that.

I prefer to use these one or two at a time in my stemless Merlot wine glasses that my boyfriend got for me last year. The lighting and the glass looks amazing! See for yourself...

The candles do not last two hours like the product page says. I'd say they last about an hour.

Packaging

The packaging is lacking and very cheap. It makes this item look like it could be bought at a dollar store. The candles come in a very thin and fragile plastic try that sits in a plastic cylinder. It is see-through and contains very little information about the product. It arrived shattered even though my EF mailing box had fragile warnings on it. If you plan on giving this as a gift, you might want to order two just in case.

Follow-up commentary
These cute and simple candles are still on my wishlist for things to replace when I run out. Instead, I'll try the roses since they are three dollars cheaper and much more affordable.

    • Anyone know what the burn time is on these? Considering using them in a wedding ceremony.

There's a burn time listed in the review you linked to. Or my review of the same candles has a burn time listed.

  • Scented candles?
    • I tend to like scented candles the best. What types of scented candles would you like for the floating candle products to offer. I would love some vanilla ones!

I looove scented candles. My favorite mix for in the bedroom in general is black cherry+ vanilla!
    • Vanilla would be win, but I tend to like holiday/halloween scents for candles for some reason. So something like that would be great for me.
