A Little Treat for the Holidays

The Red Diamond Princess is a perfect holiday gift to introduce vibrators into that special someone's life. Sadly, when the battery starts to die, so do the vibrations, so this is a needy vibrator. Regardless of its weak points, it's great for people wanting to start a collection as well as a nice, low-priced present for those that already know that they love vibes. This vibrator by Evolved is certainly lovely, with its encrusted gems, and is beautiful for any occasion.

Use

The Red Diamond Princess is considered a "traditional vibrator." It's very small and works by a dial that has three main intensities. The design of it is pretty, non-intimidating, and can be played with by people new to using vibrators. Since it is so small, its best uses are externally, mainly on the clitoris, nipples, or other sensitive body parts. It's marketed to be a low-priced, sexy gift for the holidays, and it certainly does make a cute stocking stuffer for a special someone.

I do not recommend using this vibrator vaginally, and certainly recommend against anal use unless extremely experienced. Not thinking in terms of safety issues, the vibrator's just much more fun to use externally!

Material / Texture

The vibrator is made of a phthalates-free, velvety smooth plastic, like most of Evolved's vibrators. There was no scent to the vibrator, as it was packaged in a tin box, instead of some of their plastic packaging which has this odd petroleum smell. It also has no taste, though I'm not sure why you would put a vibrator in your mouth! Because the plastic is velvety, it has a drag to it when used, as opposed to other smooth vibrators which glide. Some people like this texture, others don't. If you don't prefer it, a good amount of lubricant will help with allowing the vibrator to move more easily and smoothly over certain parts. My little girl enjoys the velvety feel, so this is a good thing for us.

Design / Shape / Size

When I took the vibrator out of its tin box, I was pleasantly surprised. It's extremely small, at about 4 1/2" in total length and 3" insertable (though this isn't the best vibrator for insertion; it's very small and has no curve to it for G-spot stimulation). The vibrator is not only very small in length, it's also very thin. At its biggest point, it's 7/8" in diameter, and at its smallest, it's 3/4".

The Red Diamond Princess has a curvaceous shape and a rounded off tip. The bottom, where the dial is, is more round than it looks in pictures—it's very spherical, as opposed to the flat look it seems to have. It's also a deeper red, which is very lovely and pretty. The jewels embedded in the plastic cap aren't something that will come out at any point, but they are very hard and rough. This is why I do not recommend insertion—if you accidentally slip it in too far, they could scratch and be uncomfortable.

By looking at the pictures, I had thought that it at least a bit larger, but it isn't. It's one of the smallest vibrators that we own, next to our bullets. Because of this, it's fairly discreet and can be tucked away in a bag/purse or dresser drawer. It is obvious that it's a vibrator, but it isn't something that someone would notice unless they're examining it.

There were a few imperfections on the plastic that seemed to look like it was burnt, but they cannot be felt in any way.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The vibrator is turned on and off by a dial and works off of one AA battery (not included). The battery compartment is thick enough that a rechargeable battery can fit inside, but is small enough that a regular battery doesn't flop around in use when tightly screwed. There is a jelly-like ring inside the battery compartment that allows for the claim of it being "waterproof," but it's really only "splash-proof." After submerging it in water, there was some water left behind in the battery compartment, which leads me to believe that it's not fully waterproof. When I washed it, however, there were no water droplets to be found.

There are three main rumble settings on this vibrator, but they only work when they want to. When I put the battery in and turned the dial, the dial seemed to slowly increase in speed. But as I kept the vibrator on, the "dimming" effect started to work less and less and the only speeds that actually worked were the medium and high settings (mainly only the high). I've noticed that towards the end of the battery's life, the only speed that works is the high speed.

It's hard to tell where the vibrations are located on the lower settings, as they seem to rumble evenly throughout the vibrator, but when switched to the highest, I found that they are definitely most felt around the tip. The lowest speed is barely detectable. It's an extremely low rumble that feels comparable to going over a low, short speed bump in the road. The "medium" setting is an extreme jump that's fairly strong, and the highest (and practically only) setting is very strong, but not something that would be frightening. None of the settings emit any noise that's very noticeable, which is a great thing for added discreetness.

Care and Maintenance

The Red Diamond Princess is easy to store, in a purse/bag, in a closet, in a drawer, or in its original packaging, tucked away in a toy box. And because it's plastic, it's practically indestructible, and can also thankfully be used with any type of lubricant, oil-, silicone-, or water-based. It cannot be sterilized, but it can be easily cleaned with toy cleaner or soap and water.

Be cautious of this one note: if the vibrator is inserted, it should not be inserted past the edge where the cap screws on to the bottom. The little jewels can scrape and scratch, and they are also not at all easy to clean.

Packaging

Evolved's vibrator comes in a white tin box that has beveled red and black wording on it and a clear plastic front to display the Red Diamond Princess. It's very festive and attractive for the holidays. Wrapped around the box is an elastic band with a satin bow that's very cute and sweet. It makes this vibrator a perfect gift to give to someone when you're alone or in private with them. It also can certainly be reused for storage, and I plan to do so myself!

The vibrator itself sits in a plastic insert, which I recommend keeping so that the vibrator doesn't bounce around. However, if you have more smaller-sized or bullet vibrators that you'd like to store in the tin can, you can remove this. I'd say that the tin box can fit up to six vibrators of the same size as the Red Diamond Princess.

On the back of the box, there is a nice little paragraph about the vibrator, and under it are some bullets of its features. Nothing really tells of how to use the vibrator itself, but I find the vibe to be self-explanatory.

    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

I hadn't looked at the description, so I thought that this was a push-button vibrator when I took it out of the box. I felt a little bit like a dimwit when I turned it and felt it start rumbling in my hand. Where the bullets are on the packaging, it said "diamond studded controls," which doesn't imply that it's a dial. But that's alright, as I figured it out after a few seconds.

The packaging also says "true multi-speed," and "shower & bath friendly." I found that those, too, are misleading.

One thing that I really loved about this vibrator is how quiet it is. I literally couldn't hear it at all when I turned it to its highest setting, I was so astounded. This is a definite plus, and something that is very good for those new to using vibrators.
