Down with the Dolphin

Honestly, I don't know why California Exotic didn't just make a rechargeable version of the Decadent Indulgence. Sure, it would still be jelly but at least it would retain the positive qualities of jelly (softness, flexibility) and the functions would ensure I get off. Find the cheapest rabbit on the site and buy that instead.

Use

The Rechargeable beaded dolphin is intended for dual stimulation (vaginal and clitoral) with its vibrating dolphin clit stimulator along with the rotating shaft and beads. Some might try it for dual anus and perineum stimulation (although I would hesitate to advise this even with condoms). It could certainly be used alone, with a partner or in a group but just because it's a dolphin doesn't mean it likes water. This toy is, in fact, not waterproof.

Material / Texture

The shaft and clitoral bullet on this vibrator are covered in translucent, purple jelly which is a bit surprising, considering the price tag. What is perhaps more surprising is how thick and firm this jelly is, in most places. The people I know who are die-hard jelly fans (despite its porosity), love it generally because of how soft and flexible it can be. They would likely be in a for not-so-pleasant surprise with the Rechargeable beaded dolphin. This also means there is less flexibility between the clitoral stimulator and shaft, which may make it more difficult to adjust, for some.

There is definitely a chemical like scent to this rabbit vibrator which has lasted past the few several uses and washes but is not nearly as strong as other jelly toys I have tried. I can only really smell it when my nose is close to the toy.

As I mentioned, I would not recommend sharing between partners or orifices without covering with a condom and even then, the shape of this vibrator may be hard to cover completely. Because the porous jelly can harbor bacteria, I would opt only for one person, one hole use.

Although the jelly is smooth, it is quite sticky which can cause unwanted friction during insertion and also picks up lint. This may require extra cleaning if you keep it out on the charging dock.

The base of the toy and the charging dock are made of a hard, purple plastic which has a slightly silky finish (like some silkier cardboard) but isn't what I called velvet cote, either. It has very little texture and could become slippery to the touch when lubes and liquids enter the picture.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of this sex toy is fairly appealing and I think CEN did a decent job sticking to the dolphin/water theme (now if only it were waterproof!). The head of the 5.25" insertable shaft is detailed with 3 wave-like protrusions, which are much more prominent in person than than they appear in photos. I expected them to make penetration difficult but was quite surprised when they did not hinder it at all (of course, I used lube). I could feel the ridges during penetration but they were neither pleasurable nor uncomfortable. The widest ridge has a diameter of 1.65", the same as the diameter around the beads. This toy is definitely in the realm of "upper medium" and I could not suggest it to beginners.

The clitoral stimulator is a fairly detailed dolphin with a fin on either side and its back as well as a long nose. Although these appendages are all quite rounded, the firmness could be uncomfortable for some. I sometimes turn my rabbits around to get more pressure from the clitoral bullet against myself but the back fin makes this uncomfortable at best. Furthermore, the stiffness of the dolphin's nose prevents it from really moving the way some less dense bunny ears do when vibration is on. In fact, the jelly around the clitoral stimulator seems as though it might absorb some of the vibration like some harder materials do and I'm not a fan of that at all.

Around the dolphins tail and the sides of the shaft are some embossed details for further texture but they were not especially noticeable during penetration. The shapes on the sides are identical and could perhaps be seaweed inspired: one stem gradually blossoming into three rounded shoots.

Like many rabbits vibrators, the weight is not quite balanced on this toy which could fatigue the wrists, hands and/or arms.

Because of its overall length (10"), this is not the most discreet toy and I would suggest locking it away from prying eyes, especially if your company doesn't need to see it sitting on its charging base. The base itself is several inches high, too. It sits flat on any even surface but doesn't cradle the vibrator as well as the dock on my other rechargeable toy so I worry a bit about knocking it over.

Functions / Performance / Controls

CEN didn't really try to break the mold with this one. In fact, the Rechargeable beaded dolphin lacks the satisfying pulsation modes that most of their rabbit vibrators seem to have. This version has only 3 levels of steady vibration that fall short in nearly every way. not only are they subdued by the firm jelly, but they seem to be rather high-pitched as well. This only increases as does the strength. The lower setting is definitely deepest but the higher two settings don't offer much more. I was disappointed because bullet size frequently gives me a good idea of vibrations size but the jumbo sized bullet really seems to be fighting with the stiff jelly. I am almost positive that this bullet would be stronger were it free of its jelly straight-jacket.

This vibrator offers rotation of the upper half of the shaft. Unlike some rabbit style vibrators, the flexible wire inside can't really be bent in part because it's not very long but also because it's surrounded by thick jelly. The rotation is really quite mild but pleasant, for me. Pleasant enough for me to squirt but, then again, that's pretty easy these days. The direction of rotation can be changed as well, to offer a change of pace or send you over the edge.

The lower half of the insertable portion of the shaft hosts 5 columns of metal ball bearings, 8 rows deep for a total of 40 beads. Each column is on a wire and there is a little room for the bearings to move up and down (just a few millimeters) and the whole piece moves together, at the same pace. I think the Rechargeable beaded dolphin has more beads than I've experienced with other rabbit vibrators but because they all do exactly the same thing, it's not quite as exciting. Additionally, the beads take up nearly 2" of space which makes almost half of the shaft quite rigid. It's like a metal wall and when I angle it toward my G-spot, can become painful. The pleasurable sensations seemed to stem only from the rotating shaft.

Because the beads and rotation are controlled by the same button, they both operate at either high, medium or low. I don't generally require more than one speed for rotation but I did find the beads to be easily stopped by clenching on the lowest setting. Medium and high definitely perform better.

Including the button which changes rotation, there are 3 soft plastic buttons (rotate, vibrate, direction) which are fairly raised from the base of the toy, like remote control buttons. They're easy to find and labeled with the words "Rotate," "Vibrate" and arrows around the button direction control buttons, respectively. There are also 3 red lights above either up/down button to indicate which setting the toy is on but I can never see those buttons during use so I could give or take that feature. I do wish there was a master power button, however. The separate controls require turning on the functions separately and there is no way to quickly turn it off in case of emergency or interruption.

I have noticed that there is some lag between turning on the functions and them kicking in fully. The rotation/beads are a bit slugging for the first couple seconds and it takes the vibrations a second to "jump" into action. The jump can literally be felt. I think that having the other function on causes a slightly longer lag, but only by a fraction of a second.

This vibrator is kind of noisy and definitely could not be used with someone else in the same room (if discretion is the goal). A closed door would probably be safe but I'd add some white noise (TV, radio, fan) just to be safe.

Of course, the charging base doesn't do anything special. It just charges and the the base of the vibrator slips into it fairly easy. Each piece has an arrow to indicate position so the metal contact points will meet. There is an indicator light which seems to flash red and green when charging, then stays green when the toy is fully charged. The first charge needs to last 6 hours (although the light went off well before 6 hours and it was not ready) and the packaging advertises 75 minutes of use. I cannot fully vouch for that because I simply do not want to use this toy for very long but the power has stayed consistent during my use. Following charges need take only 2 hours, I believe. I misplaced the instructions but they do say not to charge for over 24 hours so this vibe cannot be "stored" on its dock, unfortunately.

Care and Maintenance

Because of its porous and sticky nature, I would recommend a before and after wash of this toy every use. Soap and water won't sterilize it but will help to rinse away the dirt and dust. Never submerge this vibe! Water or silicone lubes are fine and you will most likely want to use some lube with this. Store in a cool, dry place away from other soft toys to avoid reactions and pray you get your money's worth.

Packaging

The packaging for this toy is freaking ridiculous. I know it includes more pieces than usual but really? It's a joke of a gigantic box with two plastic inserts that is so wasteful and space consuming that I don't even want to think about it.

Personal comments

The box says this toy is "charged and ready." The box is a liar.

Also, I think it's fair to describe the wall of metal beads as "braces for your sex toy" and no one really wants that.

I've had success with several other CEN rabbits even though they were all jelly or and battery operated so I'm not sure why the company decided to stray from tried and true methods with this one.

I can't take away any points for this but the metal contact points on the bottom of the vibe prevent it from standing upright, which I sometimes do with my toys when washing.

I normally do not like to criticize toys for not being waterproof but the dolphin theme is completely misleading, here.

I really do think the shaft rotation is pretty nice and it's stronger than the vibration. However, my "Vroom" reflect the vibration slightly more.
