I love being submissive but so often even in my head I think how weird. That can make me aloof but for me it’s a learning process. What I am comfortable with now rendered me terrified in the beginning.

Sometimes the best things to do is laugh. Doesn't always have to be so serious. Specially if things are getting real serious, might need to take it down a notch.

I occasionally feel silly, but my partner and I just laugh it off and move on if something silly happens. We've gotten to the point where we usually don't feel silly in bringing things up to each other in conversation that we want to try, but that's mostly because we've been together for a while. Might be different in a new relationship.

Me and my boyfriend used to have the same issue, except I would feel shy and laugh when trying to dominate him. If you are completely comfortable with your partner you can just brush it off and try again. Eventually we got to where we wanted and still look back at the awkward moments and laugh. Just go with it even if you are shy and eventually you guys will get there too!

Sometimes when Dragon calls me names, I try not to laugh because it just is so out of the normal. Also, I tend to laugh from pain instead of cry so that can get awkward when I'm getting a good beating

The biggest problem I've found with keeping in the proper headspace is that I have four cats, two of whom are exceptionally needy, one of whom is exceptionally goofy and playful, and one of whom is very grumpy and crotchety. So I'll be into a scene, and one cat will start bawling like a baby, or the goofy cat will leap at the doorknob and come down on the grumpy cat's head and start a fight.
It's pretty much impossible not to laugh when the cats start acting up.
