They definitely don't tighten down as hard as screw-down style clamps, and are much more enjoyable for me to wear over the course of an hour or so. I consider the screw-downs to be more of a punishment device. As far as how tight they fit, I can tell you that if it's attached to the tip of my nipple then the ring can only slide up about a third of the way. If they are placed on the base of my nipple, the adjustment ring is only able slide up about half of an inch. I would definitely recommend tweezer clamps like these for someone starting out, I think you will find them very comfortable. Thanks for reading the review and for your question!

They hold more secure than you would think, and will cause less discomfort if you apply them to the base of the nipple.

I say buy them, I don't think you'll regret it. The rubber pads look thin like they wouldn't provide much comfort, but they do.
