I love it but it takes forever to make. But nothing like a good homemade meal.

i mean, i know we will donate points and you guys will purchase something, but what will that be?
It would work really similar to how we did it last year, where basically anyone interested in volunteering to be one of the Community Reps should find an organization in their area. Make sure you can meet their requirements and take a look at all of the details (such as committing to the list they might ask for, the delivery terms they ask for etc) – send the details to me to look over (Sam @ edenfantasys .com).

Some tips: When looking for an agency, try Googling “Adopt a family” and the name of your town or city. Also: church groups, neighborhood organizations, college groups, and so on, are all ok - whatever is available in your area - we don't care about the politics of it, as long a family in need is getting help!

Ok, I took most of that word for word from Victoria's post last year, but you guys would do the leg work; the shopping, planning, coordinating, etc; and then we send you money. This year, we could start taking donations, well, even tomorrow, and run it for two weeks and then split the proceeds of that fund raiser between the people who will be sponsoring families for Thanksgiving. I'd like to try and get two people signed up for families for Thanksgiving.

That's so... odd. I like it though.

wow thats much more involved than i was thinking. definitely rewarding though. as long as you guys provided a clear outline of how we were to go about it, i think it should be fine and you should have sufficient volunteers.

I really like the idea of splitting the donations. Seems most fair.

Honestly, I got it because I thought it would be pretty to display with my glass and steel toys.

As for "we don't care about the politics of it" (I assume meaning the agency) have we ever had a problem with an agency that doesn't want donations from us or won't mention our name, because of.... well.... the sex and everything?

I agree, and then there's still the added bonus of not tapping people out before it's all over.

What we will do to avoid scammers, like the one family last year (I feel it has to be brought up) who don't really need the help, but just want free stuff? I know it was one of the things that contributed to my burn out last year.

I don't think there were any problems last year. Also, a check is sent to the sponsor who then spends it on items the family wants/needs. There really is no connection to EF except if they want to know.

There's nothing at all about the company mentioned. We're sponsoring you, and the people and organizations you choose to help don't need to know where the money and items are coming from or how they were paid for. So you get to know that this fantastic community helped, but the place you're helping can think it was all you. You can tell them if you want, but it's definitely not a requirement.

With that, all we can really do is go on the honor system. My understanding was that the person sponsoring that family didn't know ahead of time and couldn't have done anything differently. Make sure that it's an organization that you trust has done the proper research on the families it's trying to help is what I'd recommend.

No worries. I sometimes forget when things don't get mentioned properly because I'm too close and I already know most of what we're discussing

Oh, I know she didn't know. I don't even remember who it was, who isn't important at all who. It was just sad that people (not the woman who was trying to help!) would try to scam a charity.

Oh! It really is. All we can do is use our best judgment on that one. If we get scammed, then Karma will get the people who are low enough to try and rip off a charity that's focused on helping other people.

Since Thanksgiving isn't that far off and given that amount of work needed to research a charity properly, we should get this started ASAP.

Ok, so now that we're ok with how we want to run the fundraisers, are we ok with starting collection tomorrow? Is that too soon? How do you feel about taking donations until Tuesday, the 15th? That way we have enough time to make sure we can get checks sent to those that are helping.

Thoughts in general?
