Enema's aren't really needed. Actually, the rectum is a lot cleaner than most think. However, if you are wanting to give yourself a quick clean out, going with a Fleet enema usually always works. They are available at most pharmacies OTC and have really good step-by-step instructions.

The best tip is to remember to hold in the fluid as long as you can. Usually after using an enema, you get the urge to push it out right away. For best results, try to hold it in for about 30 minutes before you go to the bathroom.

Also, keep in mind, that excessive enema use isn't the best solution.

the Fleet and most commercial enemas bother me. they have various chemicals (preservatives and laxatives) in them that can irritate. i would recommend buying one of the re-useable kits the EF sells and using plain water

If you go with the fleet variety, just empty the contents, rinse and fill with warm water. Avoid water that's too warm or hot in order to avoid burning yourself. More pharmacy specific stores (i.e. cvs/walgreens)and medical supply shops typically sell a cheap-y disposable version of the traditional bag enema if you really want to try going that route.
