I think it's your responsibility to share and communicate how you feel about your cleanliness too. If you haven't had an enema or a hot shower, then be open about NOT wanted to find out the hard way that you're not clean enough to avoid an embarrassment. My wife has told me on more than one occassion that tonight was not the night to play back there. Not wanting to have an accident either, I am more than happy to do something else.

Definitely taking a shower will be great. I agree with the posts about Enema's, also it's good to know your habits and body. If you know that after a meal, or certain times of the day how your body reacts then you can determine perhaps the safest time to have anal sex. Not that you want to know, but as an example for me, I cannot do anything anal related till just the afternoon/evening, and late at night. This is because I know my body well enough and my eating habits.

Nothing makes anal more fun and enjoyable that a few good enemas of warm water. After you've been flushed out, you can begin anal olympics with zero worry about the "dirty". It's what the adult film stars do (at least the good ones) that's how they are able to do such long scenes of hard-core anal with no sign of mud. Enemas themselves can cause discomfort and accidents of their own. And it's a lot of work. For day to day spontaneous anal sex, a healthy diet, knowing your body and when it's right to do are the most important things.

We shower BEFORE anal play. We make sure neither of us needs to have a bowel movement (or went a few hours prior), since if you don't have to go to the bathroom, your anus and rectum should be really empty.
That's it. Period.
I know some folks do enemas and honestly, I cannot think of a better way to stir up things, and create the urge to go and make a mess potentially, then an enema before hand.
We always use disinfectant Pop Up wipes (Wet One's)at the bedside, after pulling a toy, finger or penis out of a rear and all is well. I play with my hubby's tail end with my fingers and toys too, and have never had an issue there either.

If you're worried about being "clean" use an enema. You can get them at a drug store for super cheap. A lot of people I know says it makes them feel more comfortable with anal.

Frankly, I don't understand how so many people say they've NEVER had anything come out during anal. I wash thoroughly in the shower, but obviously I can't get inside with the wash cloth...so yeah, sometimes there is some "stuff" on the toy or condom. The last time it was on a toy and my husband said something, I've been afraid to ask for anal since. I'm definitely going to try an enema next time.. with warm water not the chemical solution.

Use warm water enemas, if you have too. The only other thing to consider, which has NOT been mentioned, is the time of day. Usually, late morning or in the evening, after dinner, your rectum is generally empty (hard to believe); but having a bowel movement may or may not be required.
As a hiker in the wilderness, going to the bathroom is usually in the morning. After that, you are pretty much out of shit until later in the day and then another visit to the bathroom may or may not be required.
