It's no necessary, but background noise is always good... I have roommates and such and in the dorms it was the same. I swear all college housing has thin walls. I think it's on purpose...

Idk why, but dubstep and good electronica make great background noise...

For us it's usually spontaneous, so if we're not already listening to music or watching TV or whatever, we don't put anything on. If anything, we'll turn off the TV because our focus is no longer on it and therefore wasting electricity...and we like to pay as little for our bills as possible

We used to listen to music all of the time. All day, every day. I've grown bored with hearing the classics thirty times a day and the new stuff really doesn't appeal to me all that much. My guy isn't much of a TOOL fan so that's out and Pink Floyd is a mood thing. We mostly listen to Lithium and channel 99 on Sirius.
