Apparently, "clitoris" is a dirty word.

I write reviews of Bollywood movies and sex toys quite often, and sometimes, I transfer them over to Eopinions.com. While transferring a sex toy review, I noticed that the website would not let me publish said review. It said I had a "bad word" that could not be used, basically. Imagine my surprise when I realized the bad word was..."clitoris."

...what?

I understand why it flipped out when I had "dildo" in there, since "dildo" can be used as an insult outside of the sex toy realm. But CLITORIS?!

Before I could stop myself, I shot off a bitchy letter to the folks in charge, telling them (to shorten my rant) that I was absolutely insulted that a part of my anatomy was considered a curse word. $10 says I get banned for writing reviews about "massagers" like they were sex toys, or they just send me some mass-produced e-mail in response to my complaint.

*giggle-snort* The medical community denied we even had one up until the early part of last century. And the site obviously doesn't believe in the existence of sex toys. I wonder if they think the Earth is flat, too.

Every forum has the right to police itself.

I do not find the word clitoris objectionable - but in forums where young people might be exposed to sexual information without the knowledge of their parent/guardian, there must be filters.

Every editorial is not appropriate for every forum.

That is so stupid. Perhaps, the Little Bean of Love, or if it was Bollywood "The Chickpea of Desire." No....

I'm sorry you were hassled.

Then I could see a review with "clitoris" in it flagged for review by a moderator based on content, but the word itself is medical and not sexual.

The ultimate has to be the saga of Beaver College back in the '90s. I think they wound up changing their name to avoid the hassles with content filterers. Anyone else remember that?

That is retard I took anatomy and "clitoris" is a medical term, it is Latin for crying out loud! It is translated "little penis" actually just for a fun fact. I feel that all medical terminology should be publishable even to children! What it's not right for children to know about their bodies!

Wow! Clitoris is not much different than saying finger! Lol. Is this site got a lot of children involved or something? That is the ONLY reason I could understand why they prefer it not be used. Otherwise, I can't help but think it seems a bit absurd. How else can you say clitoris?

Ridiculous. Funny thing is, nowadays you will routinely see clinically correct words like penis, vagina, etc in newspaper articles. How in the world is that any different? Weird stuff.

Does it filter "penis" too or is the filter sexist?

Some I know still find the word 'penis' taboo, not to mention 'vagina', even with major TV networks, but 'clitoris' as a bad word is new to me, though not unexpected. I was surprised, though, when you said 'dildo' is sometimes used as an insult. I had never heard of it being used in that fashion before.
