Do you make a big deal over your own birthday?

Contributor: Breas Breas
Just curious how many people have big celebrations for their birthday. As I get older, the excitement of my own birthday kinda fades lol

No. It's not a big deal. Birthdays are a big deal if you've had less than 16 of them, or more than 100 of them.

I still bake my kids a cake, even the older ones, and My Man gets a pie, he doesn't really like cake. We do small presents. But, birthdays aren't huge deals in our family. My father always calls to see if we're going to do big parties for the kids and we just don't have it in us, and honestly, the kids don't care. They have a few friends over etc. I've never been one to spend a massive amount of money on kid birthday parties. A few friends and once every few years some interesting field trip for a party is what we do.

I usually have to bake my own cake or My Man gets a Sara Lee cake for me for my birthday. He gets upset if I bake my own cake "You shouldn't have to bake your own birthday cake." But most of the time he forgets to buy one. I like cake. Birthday or not. I bake them all the time.

I don't make a big deal out of my birthday-- but I love making a big deal out of others birthdays! For my partner's birthday this year, I cleaned the house, bought her flowers, surprised her with a couple of gifts. I also wrote with chalk on the front sidewalk and put helium balloons outside. Birthday's are fun.

My birthday is in a week, and I could really care less. One of my friends usually gets me a cupcake or something, but other than that it is a pretty normal day.

I used to treat them like just another day until I survived a car accident. Now I am greatful to have another years of family and friends.

I don't really care about my birthday, I just celebrate it as a way to congratulate my parents survival of parenthood.

Often I make a big deal out of my birthday, though some years I just feel like, "Meh. Whatever." But I don't make a big deal like some women, demanding expensive gifts and grand gestures. To me, the big deal is getting to spend it with family and friends, I'm not so material about anything.

In the same turn, I love to make a fuss about other people's birthdays. You want me there? You got it. Your gift is as nice as it can be, within my price range at the time. And I am also the cake-maker of the family, so there's that too. Birthdays are all around a good time for me! Hey, it's the day you came into the world, why not celebrate it?!

My boyfriend though. He just thinks it's another day in the year. It makes it hard to do anything special or get him a gift if he won't consider himself for even one day of the year ^^;;

I've never really made a big deal of my birthday. I usually just eat some cake with my boyfriend or with my family. Sometimes there's presets, sometimes there's not. This year i'll be working my birthday so I won't be doing even the cake, which is okay too.

Nope, I mean, I like the attention but, I don't have to be showered in gifts or anything, I just wanna have a good time, but that isn't any different than any other day.

My birthday has always brought bad luck. People moving, accidents, deaths. No two things ever on the same day, but every year for the past 6, and a scattered few before that.
I avoid celebrating at all costs.

Yeah, I do. My mom struggled bringing me into this world, so it's kind of a big deal to me. I probably won't really care about my subsequent birthdays after this year's has come and gone. After I turn 30, I just think it's kind of pointless to get all excited about it. It's my last age-related milestone into adulthood.

Ditto. My life has an odd habit of going to hell in a hand basket right around my birthday. So I've kinda come to dread it.

I like Birthdays. I don't need the big party, but it is special to me. It isn't "just another day" but it's not like I take a cruise or anything. I'll take a cupcake with a solitary candle.

I see no reason to tell me I am getting older, my body does that all the time.
Plus we save the party's for the kids, they enjoy it more.

Nope, not really. Maybe drinks with friends and I'll buy myself presents but I make huge deals out of my sons birthdays. It's so much fun to see his little face. This year we had a magician come in and do a show with fire and music. It was awesome!

I don't care about my birthday at all. I agree - it's a big deal if you're under 21 or over 100. But when you're in the middle, who wants to be reminded they're a year older? lol We don't make a big deal out of them at all.

It has gotten to the point that I can't even figure out what I want for a birthday present, let alone how to celebrate my birthday.

Is having a nice dinner with my family considered "making a big deal"?

I might buy myself something as a treat and get a nice dinner, but I don't have an elaborate party or anything like that.

Although this last birthday, my Dom decided to give me 25 orgasms for my 25th birthday. That was a FUN birthday.

I enjoy my birthday. Its still a very special day for me however I do not make a big deal about it or feel the same excitement as I did when I was a kid.

Not really. I'll get a Happy Birthday call from my mom and at most my husband and I will go out to dinner. I used to request off work but in the past few years I haven't bothered.

My birthday really isn't important. I think my finacee's birthday is very important, though! She seems to think it's the other way around.
