What's worse, getting a really horrible gift that does not fit you at all, or not getting anything at all from a close friend?

Probably no gift at all. Atleast with the horrible gift, they made an effort.

I'd rather not get anything than a crappy gift that will end up in the back of a closet.

I'd rather get nothing at all.

Last year, my aunt and cousin started getting into beading and decided they were going to make bracelets for everyone as gifts. She called up my mom to ask what my sisters' and my favourite colours are. My mom told her that we don't wear jewelry; don't make anything. My aunt didn't heed to that warning. We now have nine bracelets sitting on the bar because the three of us won't wear them.

It's great that they are having fun with their hobby and I'm sure there are some people that would love them. But it's like making salmon for dinner for someone who hates fish. Your efforts aren't going to have the effect you want.

Horrible gift, since it's a waste of money. My friends and I don't usually buy things for each other, so not getting a gift from them wouldn't surprise me

I'd rather not get anything than get something terrible that I'll never use because someone felt they had to get me "something" but didn't put any thought into what to get me and just reached for the first cheap thing they could find. I have family members that do that every year, and then I'm stuck not tossing them because I'd feel bad, and not even being able to re-gift them because I wouldn't want to stick someone else with it. A "happy birthday" or "happy holidays" that is from the heart is enough, and really means a lot more than a gift for the sake of a gift.

I guess a horrible gift cause I would feel bad they spent money on something that I might not use. Then again I can always donate so it can be used

Horrible gift or at least a card. It's the thought that counts!

I hate getting a horrible gift because it makes me feel like they don't really know me at all.

Tough decision but I think I'd rather get nothing then to throw something in the bottom of the closet never to be seen again!

Same here, I'd much rather get nothing than feel bad about a gift I don't like.

I'd rather have a horrible gift. Being forgotten is no fun. At least they tried to think of something and you know you were on their mind for at least some small period of time.

Everyone says it's the thought that counts but if its going to be something that you are never going to use and its just going to sit around collecting dust then I would rather get nothing... as much as i love gifts its not a big deal to me if i dont get anything. as long as my son has something to open.

I say no gift, because it makes me feel forgotten unless I know they have some sort of thing going on.
with a horrible gift, as long as you have the receipt, you can always try returning it if it's possible.
