I think they're awesome! SJA is meant for kids specifically and Torchwood is def. for adults!

I actually started with torchwood, I read it was lead by a bisexual character and (as a lesbian myself) I was curious. Half a season in I figured I'd understand more of what was going on if I watched doctor who and then I was hooked. Still haven't watched all of torchwood, but I'll get there.

I love doctor who, but have yet to watch spin offs. Have however gone and looked up secret diary of a call girl (it has rose in it), and seen all the comic doctor who things on utube.

I loved Torchwood!!! It took a bunch of episodes to get into it- well it took them almost a season to hit their stride... but it was great!!! I loved their Miracle Day.
