Do you change the batteries in your smoke alarm(s) when you "Spring Forward" or "Fall Back"?

In case you're unaware, Daylight Saving time starts today in the US. Yep, it's later than you think.

It's recommended to change the batteries in your smoke alarm(s) twice a year, when Daylight Saving time begins, and when it ends? Do you do this?

I think my brother changes them when they start beeping.

I've never had to change them myself but when I do have to, it'll probably just be when the beeping starts.

Sadly, I had to answer "no smoke alarms." My landlords are pretty lazy and haven't repaired my smoke alarms even though they knew they were broken 10 months ago. I know it's illegal for them not to repair them but I just haven't gotten around to threatening any legal action. They also took 5 days to replace my broken fridge, which was grounds for breaking my lease and moving out.

I only change when the damn thing beeps. Most times it is in the middle of the night.

I have a 10 year battery in it as required by law in my state in a rental so it would be quite a waste if money to change it every 6 months.

I don't change the battery in the smoke alarm until it makes that beeping noise.

10 year battery? Is that a regular alkaline battery, or lithium — or something else??

I love the idea of a battery that lasts 10 years!

I'm like most folks; I just wait until it starts beeping. As Toy Fiend said, WAY too often that's in the middle of the fricking night.
