Men tend to stereotype women as a group and women tend to stereotype men as a group (and to a lesser extent, they're stereotype themselves). For instance, a woman will say that all men are pigs and a father will say the same thing to his daughter. Men will say women play head games and women will say that women are backstabbers.

Some things have truth to them, but as stereotypes, they're very exaggerated. Women are socialized not to be blunt and not to be assertive. Instead of asking something directly, they'll often weave around the question that they really want to get at, making the person who is supposed to answer a bit confused or "trapped."

However, it's not as exaggerated as the stereotype suggests it is.

Oh, believe me, men play headgames, too!! I think it is a control and ego issue. If they can tell their friends that woman played head games after she dumps them it justifies his being dumped. I also think that men do not take the time to understand women and that is a control issue to use when fighting.

I agree with your statement about women being socialized to not be blunt. I was trying to carry on a "friends with benefits" type of relationship with a guy I know and when I told him that he looked a little confused. I told him that I didn't want to cuddle, or anything like that and he said to me in a sarcastic tone, (joking of course) "wow, you're subtle." It disappoints me that it made me look like a tramp because I didn't want anything more from him than sex, when it is just because people aren't used to women being forward.
