Why do you do (or not do) video reviews?

I do them to add to more to the review and show how an item is. Somethings are complicated to write about, which can leave the reader asking WTF is that. So I like to add in a Video Review to help out.

Not quite, but close...

You don't have to have a written review to upload a video. BUT it's better if you do. You can upload videos directly from the main site and EdenTube. Note: You have to be the rights holder if you upload a video. Please don't upload 45 min clips of your favorite porn; they don't belong there unless you filmed it yourself.

Kayla is the one who gets the gift cards to you. I just make sure that the Video Review Guidelines are followed.

Good point to the above: If you send in a request for a gift card for an assigned video on a Friday, you probably won't get your gift card until late Monday or early Tuesday.

I don't, because I've just now got a few reviews out.

I do them because as much as I know I write really detailed reviews, sometimes things just come across better when actually shown.

I've considered it, but mostly I do not because I would like to keep my anonymity. Though, there are ways around that.

I want to do video reviews, I mainly haven't because my house is a mess and I don't want it recorded on video lol. I also don't like my voice, like someone else said, but I'm sure that's a silly self esteem thing...

Maintaining one's identity as VERY secret is essential for some professions where others might roast you for even being on this site, let alone participating. Thank goodness I am not in POLITICS!!!! Seems EVERY text they ever send, every internet posting they ever did, comes back to haunt them....often DECADES later.

I'm just not really into the whole video thing. When I first joined I used to watch videos, but now it's extremely rare for me. I find the written reviews more helpful.

I don't do them cause I'm not sure how to edit them and I'm not sure I feel comfortable talking. I hate my voice recorded.
I know I can do non-talking ones, but I personally prefer to watch videos where the reviewer talks.

I do not do them because I have trouble making videos and am a perfectionist, so if my voice isn't perfect, I won't do it.

I don't often feel comfortable talking on video. I did the EdenVlogs topic last month and it took me at least 20 takes before I was satisfied with it, and even then I wasn't satisfied.

I don't do them for several of the reasons listed above: to maintain privacy (I've had people who have only spoken to me over the phone recognize me in person because of my voice alone), for lack of all the necessary equipment to do videos, and for lack of knowledge of how to cut and edit videos even if I did have the proper software and could figure out how to download a video from my phone to the computer. Another reason (which is actually the main reason) is because I simply do not have the time. I barely have time to stop by here to see what's going on, but I love this community for providing a place to just drop by and unwind from time to time!

I do video reviews because they can supplement my written reviews very well. I tend to be very descriptive in my written reviews. I imagine it's hard for readers to read all of it. It's hard to imagine just how big 5 inches in length combined with a 2 inch diameter is, or how soft/hard medical grade silicone is. When I research for toys, videos tend to be the first thing I look at. I'd like others to have the same kind of luxury with my reviews.

For me, it takes a lot longer to do written review than the video review. I write a script based on my written review, then film it with a webcam. It generally takes me 20-30 mins to do a video review while anywhere from 3-10 hours for a written one. So if I have a written review already, why not go the extra step and do a video as well.

I haven't done any yet but I'm somewhat interested in doing so. I don't know if my equipment would be good enough, but it seems like a great way to get information out there.

I just did my first video post. It was only for the Vlog of the month topic, but it was fun. I am shy on camera and hate listening to myself. I always mess up and feel very self conscious. I am going to make myself do at least one video a month to work myself out of my comfort zone. Eden is a great place to do this. The points and gift cards don't hurt, but mostly they are a bonus to working on my confidence. I hope to do my first video review soon for a new toy I didn't see any videos for.

I love everyone's video reviews. It helps get a sizing and comparison against other toys as well as lets you see and hear differences that could change someone's mind about a purchase.

Not all videos are reviews.

We have a few categories of video: Manufacturer commercials, In-house Sneak Peak videos, Video Reviews and Adult Videos (which are R rated and not intended to be a review simply a look at the toy in an erotic setting).

All videos are moderated in that they go through an approval process and are then double checked after completion that all required elements for that type of video are in place before payment is made. Videos that do not meet the requirements in the guidelines are removed.

A little trick you can practice is to email me as soon as you receive an assignment for a product that doesn't have a video yet and get permission. This works best with manufacturer sponsored assignments and Description Review assignments, as they are usually new things that don't have video, but can work well for regular assignments, too.

Makes the process a lot quicker and gives you a much better chance of approval.

We prefer a written review to go along with video but it isn't mandatory unless you are assigned the product as part of the Assigned Video Reviews program.

Agreed! That's part of what I'm trying to work out.

In the meantime, I can say that mentors who do videos are STRONGLY encouraged to add that skill to their mentor profile!

Whenever you need info, the best place to find it is generally in your account dashboard. We have video review guidelines there that are much more up to date than the older info you will find on the forums.

While we don't discourage people adding video without payment/approval/intro file we also do not encourage it.

It is better for us to have the videos we host be branded with the EF intro and to have a bit of control over what is posted on EdenTube. Each product can only have so many videos so people uploading unapproved videos can really put a wrench in things for those who do take the time and go through channels to get approval, have the intro and receive payment.

Eventually we may have to start unpublishing videos if we have too many for certain products, keeping only the ones that are official and do the best job representing the product. This only makes sense as, of course we're going to want sponsored, paid for video to be seen above unsponsored video. That's just good business.

So, for now, while we won't just yank down unapproved videos, we also do not encourage them. We much prefer that folks follow the guidelines. And, in the future, unapproved videos may not publish at all, depending upon how the program changes.

That's why we're so busy polling you guys, of course! So we can make the best changes for everyone!
