Why do you do (or not do) video reviews?

Hey guys! We're looking at some changes in the video review program and, as always, we want your input so we make the right changes. In order to make the program as easy to use and beneficial to all of us, you'll be seeing a few polls in the next couple week.

Please answer as honestly as you can. No one will hold any answers against you and we really do want to make this program the best it can be -- which means good, honest communication between us and you!

For those who want to do video reviews - here are a couple of tips.

First of all - you can do a video review and post it without getting gift card or getting approval. However, you need to have a written review - so write the review and get it published. Then go to your reviews and if you look to the far right there is an "add video" option. Click on that - upload your video and write the descriptions and tags and you're done!

For those who want to get the gift card - your video must be on an item that doesn't have a video review or you must have a reason to feel like your review would be better - then email Carrieann. It helps to give her a link back ot the item (I like to include the item number too). She usually gets back to me within 24 hours if its not a weekend.

Once you have permission - upload the review the same way as listed above - only when it gets to the last page you will add links not only to your page and the review's page but also the main page about that product.

Then - you email Kayla with a link to the review and your screen name.

I almost always have a gift card from JR within 48 hours. less

It's been something I have wanted to do for a while, but it was a matter of timing. I just recently uploaded my first video and plan on doing more when it is appropriate. Too many videos for one product can be a bit much so I want to focus on toys or products that don't already have a featured review vid.

On a side note, I do wish the videos were moderated a little better. Some video reviews aren't reviews at all and sometimes tell the viewer nothing about the product... less

I would love to do videos for a multitude of reasons! But the approval process is too long for me, and all the products I have already have videos. Plus I have the equipment, but not the correct space, to do videos. But I definitely would if all that weren't an issue ^_~ less

Many reasons why I do not. I've actually made one but didn't upload. While people seem kinder here than say, on youtube, I am a little insecure about how worth my work will be. It is hard to know what I could do differently from a written review that will be better than one. And I hate the sound of myself talking so very much!! But more than all this, I have to make sure my identity is safe. I like to keep "this stuff" away from my normal identity. Nothing wrong with toys and all that, but it is just how I like to keep things.

I won't throw the possibility of video reviewing away, though, and might try again if I feel it would make a better presentation than writing would.

I do have a question--I usually see a review paired with a written review. Must a written review accompany a video? less

I'm really glad this came up! About a month ago, I spent days trying to make a good video for one of my glass toys. I finally figured things out and had a good video to add to my review and then I got on here to load it and find info. From the info I found on forums, I just didn't really know how to go about it. I would love to do some video reviews though! My main reason for wanting to do vids is because with many of my items like 2 of my glass toys and the pleasure swing (for example), have some things that I wanted to explain about them, things that aren't easily explainable by photos and words. You know what I mean? Also, my videos have a problem showing up a bit orange so that's probably not so pretty, but I've been playing around and have found ways to help with that problem.
