Well, soon-to-be MIL, but she's on her 5th husband (Just got married!) so I don't see any reason I shouldn't get her the typical newly-wed stuff. Though I'd be nice enough to make sure it wasn't something she received in front of family. (The bulk of the family is extremely religious, so I doubt they'd take that well.) And I don't know of much of anyone who wouldn't enjoy the massage candles. So, my vote is a strong "yes".

It depends. I'm not married or in a relationship, but if we were close, and i knew that's what she liked, then I would consider buying her a sex toy. I'm not sure why that freaks so many people out; I want to help her be happy and satisfied and it's not like I'm asking to use it in front of me. However, some people are still uncomfortable with the idea.

If we were more distant, I would instead buy her something else, like massage candles or body wash.

Not a chance in hell! My monster-in-law is a snobby old hag who refuses to use anything that isn't from a department store, and believes that any perfume/body wash that costs less than $50 is trashy. She even made a point of insulting my organic body wash every time I used it, saying how horrible it smelled. I wouldn't waste my time or money.
Though, it would be funny to see her reaction to something from EF. She already thinks I'm a horrible son-stealing succubus who's corrupted her poor innocent baby boy. (I'd love to see the look on her face if she were to learn that HE is the dom, and really likes using a whip)
