Was wondering, since I am looking into possibly purchasing one of these items, do you find that they are great at helping to achieve better sex, or do you find that these things get in the way more than they help?

We find the Liberator Wedge very useful for aiding in certain positions - it's surprising versatile. Elevating and angling her hips aids in thrusting to her g-spot in the missionary position, makes oral sex much easy on my neck and makes a nice prop for rear entry.
Soft pillows just can't provide the same level of support - as my Dad so aptly advised me; "use the right tool for the job"!
