Brand, price and reviews although there are a lot of options we could have voted on there. For example, the Lelo toys have been about the best either hubby or I have ever tried and even though they're expensive we know they're pretty much always going to be great toys.

I prefer higher end ones, so brand is important, but I will consider anything made with good quality. Size is probably the most important though.

I look for size, price, intensity of vibrations (looking at reviews) and sometimes colour. I greatly dislike pink, so no matter what reviews it gets, O won't purchase anything in pink for myself.

Type of toy, reviews, price, material, vibrations/strength.
All that plays a big part in if I buy it. Sometimes I will buy more brand named toys if it's a brand I trust and really like.
Things like waterproof, color, and design are just added bonuses.
