Gapers organic - probe discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Tessa Taboo

The Gapers Organic inflatable butt plug is a great concept. It gives you plenty of sizes in plugs, all in one toy. The only problem is that the initial deflated size is pretty large, and NOT for beginners. The name "Gapers" gives you the impression that it might, perhaps, cause your anus to be gaping. However, unless you position it just so, this isn't quite possible. As only the bulbous part inflates due to the pressure from the sphincter muscles. This is great for solo play, and couple play alike. I don't recommend it for extended wear, simply because all the extra 'equipment' attached would make it a, well, pain in the butt.

The inflatable part is made from latex. However, when not inflated, the texture is very firm and easy to insert. It basically feels like a perfectly inflated tire. I didn't notice any smell when I opened the package, and I'm not a fan of tasting toys, so I couldn't tell you about that.

Once inflated, it basically looks like a balloon. It is still very firm though. Here is a picture of it, inflated as far as I felt comfortable pumping it up without worrying about it popping:



I'm not actually sure if popping it is anything I need to worry about. I would think that they would have some sort of safety thing in place, like a safety valve for if there is too much air in it or something. Because once inside you, feelings can be deceiving; and you don't actually know how inflated it is. And obviously, if I'm not recommending the original size for beginners, there is no way that this is going to be for beginners either.

As you can see, the base doesn't really expand much, which is what I was talking about as far as the "gapers" thing goes.

Coming from the flared base, there is clear plastic tubing, much like you would use for fish tank equipment. It's kind of stiff, and doesn't move very well. Although after a while, this might change. It could stand to be a little longer, but it's not bad the way it is. The bulb and quick release valve are just like your average blood pressure cuff, and seem to be pretty high quality. The quick release valve actually is VERY quick. It lets out the air in a super-hurry style, which is great if you've overstepped your size limits.

The insertable length is about 5 inches. The deflated diameter is about 1.5 inches, and inflated as far as I had it in the picture, it was about 4 inches.

As I mentioned before, the latex that this is made out of seems VERY sturdy. Logic tells me that if it's inflatable, it can pop. I would relate this more to a tire than a balloon as far as the sturdiness of the inflated area. Also, as you can see in the picture above, once inflated one side looks a little lopsided. We used it like this anyways, but after reading a few reviews, I've learned that if you inflate it, and kind of knead the latex, it will even out and usually stay that way. However with the popping thing, I'm worried that the bulging area creates a weak spot. BUT, all this worry could be for naught. I tried doing some research and found nothing on it popping, or no guarantees on it NOT popping. So don't let this deter you.

This is SO not discreet. Not in the slightest. If someone isn't familiar with sex toys, they may not know what it is, but they will certainly think you are up to something weird.

The official judgment on this toy is that we jumped the gun. It just looked so cool and versatile, that we had to have it. I wouldn't say that we are anal beginners, but I wouldn't consider us super experienced either. But this makes me want to get more experienced so that I can comfortably use it. I suppose, that it's better the toy was made too big for beginners. Without having some knowledge of what you are doing back there you could really hurt yourself, or someone else if you just put it in and pumped it up without taking the time to consider using extra lube for when the surface expands, and things like that.

My husband and I both tried it. I got it in, pumped it once, and said "Oh god. This is not what I want right now." He put it in, pumped it up 2-3 times. After a few minutes it started to feel uncomfortable, so he deflated it and took it out. But I have no doubt that with a little more experience, this might just be one that stays at the top of our toy bag. Which is why, despite the fact that we cant use it right now, I still gave it 5 stars.

The toy is latex, which means it is compatible with water and silicone based lubes. But it does not clean well. Wearing a condom over it is recommended, but due to how big this gets, if expanded to full size, I foresee the condom breaking. So make sure that you clean it with soap and water, and never use alcohol on latex.

After use, we wash it and let it air dry. We store it in a quart sized Ziploc bag, simply because it is so porous.

The packaging was clear, and not discrete at all. We have kind of an extensive collection, so instead of keeping the box around for storage, we just use a plastic bag. There were no instructions or anything like that, but it's pretty self explanatory.

There were a lot of things that I wanted to be able to cover in this review. Such as if it put pressure on his p-spot, and things like that. However, I couldn't because it just wasn't usable for us at this time. So, while I realize that this review may not have been very helpful on that aspect, I can tell you that the review that was the most helpful to me, and convinced me to buy this toy, was this one.
