Though it's classic in design and quite ordinary as far as collars go, this collar is very high quality, well-made, and versatile. Hard play, soft play, regular wear—you name it, you can do it with this collar. For collar collectors, this is just one more great piece to add to an established collection; for people who are searching for their perfect first that can be used in multiple settings, Spartacus's locking collar is a wonderful choice.

Made using two layers of leather that are sewn together, smooth leather is the only thing that actually touches the wearer's skin. This makes the collar extra comfortable for extended wear since it stays cool and does not stick to the person wearing it if they sweat. No suede is showing, except for the buckle strap, which is attached to the collar by rivets. The suede does shed a little bit, but not so much that it becomes a problem. It only really sheds when I rub my hands against it when I'm putting the collar on my partner.

The actual collar piece is 1 3/4" wide, but the strap that sits on top of it is about an inch wide. So it's a nice thickness—not too wide, but not too thin. There are six slits for adjustment that are each spaced about 3/8" apart, and the collar closes by a locking buckle. It doesn't come with a lock, so you will need to buy your own. Luggage sized locks work best since the hole is so small. For fit, the collar will go from 13" to 18" around. At its last adjustment, there is no strap that touches the skin, which I love. Some collars do not extend to accommodate the last adjustment, but this one does.

The leather that the collar is built with is a soft, flexible leather. It's quite thick, so it's very sturdy and strong. Of course, the best part of the leather is its smell, and this smells delectable. Since it is so flexible, it's very easy to put on because it's not too firm; another good thing about it being easy to manipulate is that you don't need to soften it up or break it in at all, so it's ready to go from the beginning.

Something that's notable is that the collar's picture is a little misleading—you're only really seeing part of it. In reality, there is not one o-ring, but three large, 1 1/2" diameter o-rings. The use of multiple o-rings can be for attachment to cuffs, connection to nipple clamps, and many other things. The rings are all soldered and finished, so the wearer should be safe during play. They're not directly on the collar's strap; instead, they are looped through a triangle ring that is looped through the strap. This makes it so that they are flat instead of protruding from the body.

So let me talk about the design a bit. The riveted strap has four different sections; one section closest to the buckle that is 3" wide, another section that is 1 3/4" wide (this section has no o-ring), and two more sections that have o-rings that are each 3" wide, closest to the adjustment slits. Each of these sections is separated two rivets, one right next to the other. I personally do not understand the smaller section, since there are only three o-rings. I found it to be unnecessary. The good thing about the wide sections, though, is that the o-rings can be moved around so that they are more even.

Near the buckle is another triangle ring, but this one instead lays flat on the body, unlike the others. It's very firmly attached to a looped-over piece of leather that is riveted to the collar, so there's no way that it's coming apart. Since it is near the buckle, you can use it to put a leash through if you are letting your submissive walk in front of you. As always, be careful when doing such things because it is in the back of the collar. It's also used as a sort of "extra locking" device, where you can turn it up and then put your lock through the locking buckle.

I was able to enjoy this collar, even though I've owned one similar and seen collars like this everywhere. It's a very well-made, sturdy collar, and since there isn't any suede that rubs against the skin, not only will the wearer be kept cooler during play, but they will also not run into any problems of skin irritation. If you're on the bridge and wondering about whether you should get it or not, get it. It's not too expensive, and you're getting a long-lasting collar that will definitely stand up to tons of play and use.

This collar is very, very attractive when it's put on. It's plain, but it definitely makes a statement. I enjoyed seeing it on my play partner because it wasn't too showy or over the top. And in addition to being quite lovely, it's also very well-made, so I was able to tug on it to my heart's content.
