Spider gag - headgear by Pipedream - review by Sir

The Spider Gag is a form of open-mouth gag that has little arms coming off of the sides of the "o" that make it look like a spider that's been planted on someone's face. It's usually used in medical scenes or during more hardcore BDSM sessions. I do not recommend it to people new to having gags in their mouth, and I definitely do not recommend this for people who have problems with their jaw or who have smaller mouths. It is a pretty large sized open-mouth gag, so make sure that you know your limits before buying it. Also, if you have any allergies to metal, do not purchase this gag. That would make for a horrible situation.

The Spider Gag has a metal o-ring (not sure what type of metal) and pleather straps. Pleather is basically fake (or vegan) leather—it looks like leather, but it does not feel or smell like leather. I'm not too much a fan of it, to be fully honest, and this pleather is not of the highest quality. Some companies make very nice vegan leather that has a good heft and feel to it, but this one feels more like foam with a leather layer on top than anything. It also crinkles very easily, which makes me worried that it will break.

With an almost 2" diameter, this open-mouth gag is pretty large. It's not the largest gag out there, but it's certainly not something that I would give to someone new to wearing gags. Metal is hard and unforgiving, so it's not a plush thing that can be bitten down on; if it is bitten down on, it would hurt the wearer's teeth tremendously. It closes by a regular buckle, which isn't the highest quality buckle, but it works. Thankfully, the strap has a loop that any extra length of strap can fit through.

There are ten holes for adjustment, each of them spaced an inch apart. Since the straps are easily manipulated, it should fit most head sizes, even if you're sized at one of those "in between" marks.

Well, I wouldn't say that this is exactly the most comfortable of gags. It's very attractive when worn, and watching the drool drip from my play partner's mouth is just mm-mm good. But truly, it's not comfortable. It's not the sort of thing that you want to get if you want to be comfortable while being gagged. I suppose that if your idea of comfortable is having your mouth spread open, saliva dripping down your chin, and your jaw straining, then you'd probably love this! If that doesn't sound too good to you, then try a ball or plug/binky gag instead. Spider gags require a certain taste (no pun intended) in order to be enjoyed and loved.

This is certainly not the best spider gag out there, but I'm assuming that it's going to be a cheaper option for people who would like to try a spider gag but are not wanting to spend tons of money on a high quality one. I'm personally not the most fond of this particular spider gag, really, because I would personally prefer something more...substantial and high quality. But it works, decently enough.

To clean the spider gag, just wipe it down with water and a little bit of soap. For the mouth piece, make sure to dry it completely and thoroughly after cleaning and use, just so that it doesn't start to rust or become unusable. For storage, put it away in a drawer or somewhere where its scent will not get on your clothing or other products of similar type.

Packaged in a cardboard box with an image of a person wearing the spider gag, it's not the most discreet display, but it is easy to get rid of and recycle. The back of the box has some information about the product itself (the design, how big the ring of the gag is) and a closeup image of the same person on the front wearing the gag in a different pose. The box has a matte finish, but the part of the image where the gag is has a gloss finish. I thought that that was pretty cool.

When it came out of the packaging, the gag had this odd, plastic-y smell. It smelled almost like marijuana, as strange as that may sound. I've been letting it air out since we used it, but it hasn't worked too much. Maybe with more time, the scent will lessen to a decent amount. Also, as someone who is somewhat of an aficionado of leathers and BDSM products, I am not too happy with the fact that this is made of pleather (and bad pleather, at that). I really, really would have liked it to have been made of something better, something with more...something to it.
