Pink candy jaguar collar by ASLAN Leather - review by Kkay

If you're looking for a beautiful collar that is also functional, then this might be the one for you. The combination of medium and heavy weight garment leather gives a butter-smooth finish inside but enough strength to stand up to serious play.

The buckle allows a padlock to be slipped through to thoroughly secure the wearer, and the O-ring is generous enough to be incorporated into serious rope work.

If you're a plus-sized user, though, I'd look elsewhere. Aslan's site advertises this as fitting 12-16 inches. I'm above that at 18, but gave it a try because I've found Aslan's gear to run larger than advertised. I can get this collar on and have room enough to breathe, but it's not comfortable.

Made of medium and heavy weight garment leather, the dark pink and creamy white contrast of this collar definitely stands out. And for someone who falls into the recommended size range, it's a good fit- my partner has a smaller neck and found it comfortable and wearable, even with the somewhat large 1 1/2 inch profile of it. For me as a plus-sized user, I found that it fit on the last notch. I was able to fit three fingers underneath the collar while wearing it, but still found it uncomfortably tight.

The collar is made of three pieces of leather- one soft white that goes against the throat, the pink layer that shows, and the white strap that buckles over it. Laying flat it looks awkward, but it's smooth when worn. A total of seven rivets hold the strap onto the collar, and the white stitching is perfect.

Because it's Aslan I expect more from it than I would from another company. It was my purchase of their red jaguar wrist cuffs that led me to this collar as my first, hoping to find the same quality.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like I did.

Don't get me wrong- I'd still rate this collar four stars on craftsmanship- but Aslan's name is built on being a solid five.

My biggest concern is the quality of the leather and how it'll hold up over time.



You can see here how the pink leather bubbles away and bows when bent. It crinkles even when it lays flat. When I run my finger over the pink I can feel a very thin layer over the solid leather underneath. My impressions of this are that it could easily be torn or scratched in rough play, and that without proper care it'd likely flake somewhere down the road.



The white leather is more solid, but you can see here the flaws that it came out of the box with. The holes are ragged on the edges, and a nick is peeling up on the edge. It's small and would only be noticed up close, but for a perfectionist like me it was irritating.

Also, if you look in the first picture, you can see that the O-ring could've been finished more smoothly. It was left with a sharp edge that could've easily been deburred. For me, I coated it in clear nailpolish to protect any rope that slides through the ring.

Overall, it's a good quality collar. Outside of my concerns with the durability of the pink leather, I'm probably nitpicking. With a company that is known for perfection in leather, though, I felt it was important to list the issues that I did have with this collar.

How well this collar performs depends on what you expect from it. If you're looking for something that can be worn in public without really drawing attention, this isn't the collar for you. The color and design make it look like something that could pass off as jewellery on the product page, but I found that in real life it was much more obvious exactly what it is. The O-ring is large and prominent and prone to jingling.

If you are looking for a beautiful collar that's suited to actually being used in play, though, I think this performs admirably. When I wear it I've had no issues with chafing or discomfort from the tag, even though I have hypersensory issues. The solid design means that it can be tugged on without choking the wearer, and I found it easy to attach both leads and rope to the O-ring. The locking buckle is a nice touch that can easily be put into use for a bit of added security, but I found it worked well without a lock as well.

Where I don't like this is for long-term use. As I've said, I'm plus-sized. This collar fits for me with enough slack to be safe, but I don't find it comfortable. I can wear it for 10-15 minutes without issue, but when it goes beyond that I reach the point where I want to take it off.

Part of that might be because this is my first collar, and part might be because it's a little tight, but I can't really see wearing this comfortably for 24-7 use. In my opinion, it's better suited for wear during play.

Like anything else that presses against the skin, you will sweat on this. It's leather, so treat it appropriately- wipe down with a damp cloth to clean, and use leather cleaner when appropriate. Aslan suggests covering the metal in clear nailpolish to prevent rusting. For storage, I personally store it flat.

Aslan has a lifetime guarantee, which is amazing, and it shows a confidence in the quality and durability in their work that makes me quick to buy their products over competitors.

The packaging was very basic- just a thin plastic baggie- and there was a small Aslan tag attached by plastic that suggested covering the metal in clear nailpolish and advertised the warranty. Very minimalistic, not much info included.
