I picked up a copy of Bared to You by Sylvia Day for my recent assignment. This book is the first in a trilogy. Gideon Cross is a billionaire businessman. When he meets new employee Eva Tramell, her breath is taken away. Tall dark and dangerous is the ongoing theme of his description. It gets a little old hearing about how supposedly perfect this man is-- every woman and more than one guy takes note of his looks. However, Eva herself is a rather strong and likeable character. From their first meeting the sexual tension and chemistry are dripping off the page. Eva is a survivor herself, having been a victim of abuse. Some have compared these books to the 50 Shades Trilogy that's very popular. I haven't read the series so I couldn't really compare the two. I don't really see much of a connection unless you count a very rich hero with emotional problems. There is no BDSM theme or kinky sex in this story, unfortunately.

This is a more erotic story, but the sex scenes are definitely steamy. There are also a lot of background storylines, like about Eva's roommate, and about her experiences in therapy recovering from an abusive childhood.

I thought that there were too many characters with emotional problems. The relationship between Gideon and Eva does have its problems, which I am sure will continue in the next book. But I felt that every time there was an issue instead of talking they just had sex, but I understand that this makes for a better read than a long drawn out discussion would. Like a lot of male leads Gideon is unreasonable when it comes to Eva, he goes off the deep end if she even speaks to other men, but it is okay for him to carry on as he pleases, that's just a pet peeve of mine. But this was a compelling story nevertheless, and made for an easy read. If you like erotica that has more than just sex involved, I'd recommend the book to you.
