Use

ID Glide is a fairly popular water-based lubricant and is touted for use in most-to-all situations. It is condom safe, toy safe, and theoretically safe for use in the human body. However, my experience was sadly lacking.

The best use I found for this was for a simple insertion—if I had to stick something inside myself, like a vibrating bullet, for example, or the tip of a butt plug. However, it falls really short in every other possible way.

I wouldn't recommend this highly for ... well, anything, really. It dries very quickly and becomes quite sticky and is thus not very good for hand jobs, anal sex, or vaginal sex.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

It's quite thin and initially slippery, almost like an oil or some sort of hair product. It pours easily due to this fact. However, it does not stay in place very well; it sort of spreads out and then gets extremely sticky. Many water-based lubes get sticky, but this is extra sticky—like you've spilt adhesive of some sort on yourself. Yikes!

The ingredients are purified water, glycerin, propylene glycol, cellulose polymer, polyethylene oxide, sodium benzoate, methyl paraben, carbomer 981, tetrahydroxypropyl, ethylenediamine diazolidynl, urea, and EDTA.

Yikes, that's a long list of scary-sounding chemicals! Most of them are preservatives, but some of them are questionably healthy (parabens), and glycerin can lead to yeast infections in the female anatomy—so be careful! Some people may experience burning or itching due to the ingredients. Be aware of your chemical sensitivities!

Taste / Aroma

It smells and tastes quite chemical, and that is likely because of the very long list of chemicals that comprise it. Worse, even after I cleaned it up with a warm washcloth, the smell lingered on me, which was very unpleasant.

Performance

For the first few seconds, it feels as though this has promise. But then it starts drying out, and then it becomes an incredibly sticky mess. It's just not worth the effort—you can "revive" it a little by adding a little bit of saliva or water, but licking your lube-y hands once they taste the way ID Glide does is very unappealing. Your other option is to keep reapplying, and that's just wasteful—you go through so much trying to keep it from getting sticky.

Follow-up commentary
In recent times I have given this another chance and it STILL isn't for me. IT was the only lube available and, to be honest, we needed some lube. Fuck!

I felt itchy and burn-y afterwards, and my insides were not quite right for quite a while afterwards. That's never sexy. Skip it. Seriously. Try something else, something better, ANYTHING but this stuff.

thanks for the review - my main problem with waterbased lubes is the stickiness. Some people love this stuff, so I wanted to look into it.

  • I received a sample and want to make sure it's the real thing before writing a review.
    • I got this sample with a wholesale order:

Is this the one EF is selling in larger bottles, so can I review it?
    • It looks the same to me. If you're going to review it, do note that you have a smaller sample size tho.

I would mention that. It got pretty good ratings but it's like the worst thing I ever tried maybe 2/5. So not sure if it's just my personal preference or just plain different. Ingredients looks like the same tho. I read your durex warming review! I like that lube and use it to the day. This is far worse than that in terms of smell and performance. I got a premium silicone lube recently and I can finally understand why people gave 2/5 to the durex warming :) But I like it anyway, it's different. But made me realize what tacky really means and now I got a better picture.

  • Why is this product not sold in the same types of containers?
    • I am wondering why the different weights are sold in different containers. The 17.5 oz. container looks the best, but costs more. The 4 oz bottle looks weird, and I don't like it. They should be sold in same-looking containers. Any comments? Agreements?

I'd noticed that, too, and I think it's a bit odd. I think it'd be much better if they made them all the same as you suggested. I guess they figure they're just giving people a choice in the way the lube is disposed?

The Gun Oil lube bottles look pretty much the same except for size or if it has a pump. Personally it doesn't bother me what the bottle looks like. Some I am sure are easier to conceal in a pocket or purse for the purpose of travel. Others do to their size like the one I baught being 35 oz. looks like a shampoo bottle and you could probably have out in the open as long as someone didn't take to close a look at it. I am sure they had their reasons for making the bottles the way they did.
