Cupless bustier - bustier discontinued by Coquette - review by nolongerhere

This Cupless Bustier from Coquette is both a beautiful and frustrating piece of lingerie. I purchased this piece as I have large breasts and a smaller frame and usually regular lingerie does not fit my body without some part of the clothing being the wrong size. I thought that a cupless bustier would give me more flexibility in sizing.

Style, Fabric, and Design

This bustier is mostly red satin type fabric with black lace details on the flanks and under the cups. The fabric is satin soft, and while made of acetate, feels rich and luxurious. This bustier is advertised as cupless, but actually does have small flaps that may provide support for some women if the sizing is correct. There is plastic boning running throughout, the boning feels strong, while still flexible. On one occasion, a piece of boning poked through the satin-like material underneath the breast. I was able to slide it back into place. The front of the bustier features sturdy hook and eye closures. The bustier edges, along the closures, and in the back, have soft piping.

My favorite feature of this bustier is the corset back section. I have never owned a corset like this. It is unique in that the ends of the laces are tied together and are laced from both top and bottom in a way that the ends come together in the middle in a loop. It allows the user to effectively lace up alone, without someone helping them. For a lady trying to surprise her lover with some sexy lingerie, it is wonderful not to ruin the surprise by asking for lace-up help. It also will not come untied, which is convenient.

Sizing/Fit:

I typically wear a size 10, sometimes an 8 and occasionally a 12. My waist measures 28-29 inches, I am 5'7, and have a very long waist and torso. I weight about 155-160 lbs. I wear a 34 DD bra size. I waffled between the medium and large, and ended up purchased a medium. I ignored the bust sizing completely, and just went with the waist and hip measurements. When I opened the package I thought there was no way it was going to fit. I had to open up the laces almost the whole way to get it on and struggled to get the hooks closed. However, after the hooks were done I was really able to tighten the laces to a pretty surprising extent. So, while other reviewers have reported that this bustier runs small, I would agree to an extent. On the other hand, Once I had it on, I was able to really crank on the corset laces and almost get the middle portion of the corset to touch, which created a pretty delightful waistline for me.

My one issue with this product is the half cups. I found them to interfere with the normal way my breasts fall and the flaps sort of poked into my skin and I ended up folding them under so that the bustier literally has no cups. I was toying with the idea of actually removing the flaps and re-sewing it so that my breasts can fall naturally. For some women with smaller breasts, these cups may provide support and a lift, but for a larger chest, they just are awkward. I guess I should not have ignored the bust size, but then the rest of the sizing would have been off.

Other Details

This bustier has no special packaging. It arrived in a clear plastic bag. Nothing for storage, and no other accessories like garters, arm straps, or stockings were included. Please be careful if you choose to wash this as many acetate materials require dry cleaning. Be careful with your lubes, as they may stain the fabric.

I still really enjoy this product, I started wearing a really sexy matching bra to deal with the cup not fitting correctly, I am still planning to cut those pesky cups off and sew it back together, but I haven't gotten around to it yet!

This lingerie is still holding up, and I am ever more appreciative of the do-it-yourself laces and the fact that they never get unlaced and tangled.
