Oh, My God. I'm Totally Buggin'!

This is the cutest caterpillar you ever saw! It features lush silicone and deep, multispeed vibrations, is well made with a strong motor, and only takes two AAA batteries. So what if he's not really waterproof? You have to love him with a face like that.

Use

This bug is more than just a caterpillar with a cheeky smile. It's a strong little bugger with six levels of vibration and three additional patterns. But we'll get to those later. In my opinion, this vibe is better suited for external use but can be used internally to stimulate the G-spot. The rigid head will allow you to provide pressure as needed, and the bulges provide nice internal stimulation.

Please do not try to use this vibe anally! There is no flared base to keep it anchored outside the body. Inserting it could lead to a painful, not to mention embarrassing, trip to the hospital. Who wants to tell their doctor that they need a vibrating caterpillar removed from their anus? I sure don't! So please, only use this toy vaginally or for other erogenous areas that don't require insertion, such as the nipples, testicles, underside of the penis, etc.

Fun Factory says the toy is supposed to be waterproof, so you can take it in the bath, shower, hot tub, whatever. I actually found problems with this. From reading other reviews, I found out I'm not alone in this. I'll go more into detail with that later.

Material / Texture

This is my first Fun Factory toy, and I love, love, love their silicone! If you own anything from FF, you understand. I have never felt anything like it. It is incredibly soft and plush. I could not stop touching it once I took it out of the box.

The texture is pretty smooth, with a set of nubs on each bulge of its abdomen, but it has the slightest bit of drag, almost like matte silicone. I didn't notice any extra stimulation with the nubs. I think the material is too soft for them to really be felt.

Upon removal from the package, the toy had no scent or taste. It does not hold or emit any smell after play or cleaning (if washed with soap that has a mild scent or used with a flavored/scented lube). It is phthalates and latex free, hypo-allergenic, and non-porous, which makes it completely body safe. Who doesn't love that in a sex toy?

Design / Shape / Size

I have never been a fan of whimsical toys, but I had to get this one because it is just too cute to pass up. The Baby Bug is part of Fun Factory's Mini Vibe line, so you should expect it to be fairly small. Here are the measurements:

Length/Insertable: 5" / 4"
Circumference/Diameter: 4" / 1.25"

The toy is a nice, modest size; it is good for beginners and advanced users alike. It is pretty discreet, but I wouldn't leave it lying about. At first glance, it just looks like a cute caterpillar thing. But if someone gets curious and starts fiddling around with it, it won't take them longer than two seconds to figure out what it is used for.

It is a great toy to travel with. You can toss it in your purse since it's so compact. Of course, I recommend putting it in a bag first. And it is really quiet. I wouldn't worry about anyone hearing the toy. You, on the other hand, might make a bit more noise.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls are simple enough:

Press the positive sign to turn on the toy and increase the speed. Hold it down to cycle through steady vibration settings and again to move on to the three patterns. Press the negative sign to decrease the speed and to switch from the patterns to steady vibrations. Hold to quickly cycle through the speed levels, and press once more to turn the toy off.

The vibrations are deep, not buzzy, and seem to resonate from the tip of the toy -- the caterpillar's head. There are six levels of steady vibration and three different patterns. The first pattern is a slow roller coaster-type pattern. The second is a faster version of the previous pattern. And the third is a quick pulse. For me, the patterns were more enjoyable for teasing as I could not get off with them. The steady vibrations are what did it for me. It only takes two AAA batteries and has a decent battery life.

The motor is whisper quiet on the lower settings, but it gets a little louder on the higher settings. That's to be expected, though. It is definitely loud enough to hear through the covers but not through a closed door or thin walls.

As I said before, there were problems with the toy being waterproof. It may be so when there are no batteries in the compartment. But once the batteries are in, the cap doesn't completely close. There is a little gap in the plastic, keeping this toy from being submersible. Sadly, I did not notice this until after I cleaned the toy. Water got inside and the motor is now ruined. I found out only after I tried to use the toy again. On the first four settings, the motor makes a weird rumble/whine. It won't even vibrate on the first two settings anymore, and on the next two, it is so light you can barely feel it. The vibrations can really only be felt on the two highest settings and the three patterns. Even then, it's barely enough to get me off. So make absolutely sure there is no gap in the battery cover before completely submersing the toy. You don't want yours to be ruined like mine.

Care and Maintenance

To clean the Baby Bug, spray it down with toy cleaner or wash with warm water and soap. I would make sure to take the batteries out before cleaning so you can be sure the cap is on securely and there are no cracks for water to leak into the battery compartment. Do not boil this toy. Yes, the silicone is boilable; no, the motor is not. Popping this in the dishwasher or a pot of boiling water will ruin the motor and your toy will no longer work.

You should only use water-based lubricant with this toy. Never use silicone- or oil-based lubricants with silicone toys. I can't stress this enough. You will get a bad chemical reaction and your Bug will be ruined.

Storing this toy is easy since it is so compact, but do not store it too closely to other silicone toys. They could react poorly and melt the material. I still have the original packaging and that is where I keep my Baby Bug. It isn't suitable for long-term use; it's just a clamshell inside a cardboard box. Eventually, you will be forced to find more appropriate storage.
