Definitely depends how you define sex - Some people don't count anal or oral sex as "real sex" either!

I have a broader view - any form of genital penetration - oral, anal or vaginal is sex to me. I don't get the point of parsing 'sex'.

The only conceivable reason to even discuss this is the determination of when one has lost their virginity. Another issue of dubious dialog, even though I am fairly religious and conservative, the value of virginity is beyond me.

I think this topic is a good follow up on the heels of a recent discussion regarding what others believe as "having sex" & if I remember correctly, this option wasn't included. and this sexual contact occurs in other sexual play, not just in the contest of virginity.

If the fingers are dismembered, then definitely not.

I consider fingering to be a sexual act, but I don't consider it to be sex. To me sex is pretty much intentionally touching genitals with someone for an extended period of time. Scissoring, and someone giving or receiving a dick (one that is attached to someone).

I personally define sex as an activity that can be seen as of a sexual nature. This includes not only vaginal penetration, but also oral, anal manual and even non penetrative forms of activity.

I of the opinion that ones virginity is lost in stages. So one can be a virgin when it comes to vaginal penetration by penis/toy yet have perhaps engaged in oral sex.

I also don't get the value that is placed on virginity. To me it seems to serve no purpose beyond a religious obsession with sexual purity and a persons desire to be the one that went there first. There will always be firsts, regardless of how much a partner has done before they were with you.

It's a sexual act, but I personally don't consider it sex.

i consider it sex, but i think sex is personally defined. lots of people may not enjoy or want to have penetrative sex at all, and may therefore consider frotting to be sex for them, etc.

i definitely consider oral, fingering, and anything of a definitively sexual nature to be "sex".

(also re: the only sex with two vulvas being scissoring??? do that many people really even scissor?? it seems so ineffective and clumsy)

No, the only real sex, I believe, is vaginal or anal intercourse.

absolutely. Any stimulation of one's "private parts" by some else is sex.

Um, absolutely. Finger fucking, and oral, are both without a doubt sex, in my opinion.

I believe if you can have an orgasm from it, it's sex!

I don't consider it sex, but a sexual act. I wouldn't consider one could "lose their virginity" this way. If someone said they had sex, I would probably disagree if fingering was the sole act.

I completely agree. I consider it a sexual act pretty much foreplay.

A sexual act, but just foreplay to me. Same with oral.

I'd agree it's foreplay, still sexual activity, but not actually sex.

As would I. I only see one as being able to lose their virginity through actual intercourse.

I suppose it wouldn't if I had a complete black & white view of the term.
I think the real question is, how do you define intercourse in general? Would it be the penis-in-the-vagina way, as everyone who answered "no" here states? If so, what about the people who were born with a congenital disorder and are missing the whole lower half of their body. Such a person would be unable to have intercourse the penis-in-the-vagina way, but there are other 'sexual acts' that they can do (such as fingering) for their partners. I guess what I'm trying to say is, saying "no, I don't believe fingering is considered intercourse" is invalidating people with certain conditions of having intercourse (which inhumanizes them). I'm not trying to be mean, but everyone needs to realize that there are many different types of people & sexualities in the world. We need to stop trying to rigidly define them.

I call intercourse sex mostly, and the rest sexual activity, but those are only my personal definitions. I would never argue with someone else if their definition is different than mine, because sex is a personal thing, and what activities you identify as sex can be different according to your experiences. I'm in a straight relationship primarily, so intercourse is penis-in-vagina for me, but in my gay relationship I guess I called everything sexual "sex", so it changes a little even with just me.

As far as people who say that fingering makes you just as "unpure" as sex does, I think purity is a wad anyway. XD

I would say it's more like to fondeling or groping. More of a foreplay action then actual sex
