Anyone ever copied your review?

Contributor: unfulfilled unfulfilled
I caught a review that sections were copied from my previous mentor and reported it to EF and they said they'd handle it. I'll have to look and see if the review is gone I never thought to look back on it. I was reading all her reviews b/c she was my first mentor and then one particular item seemed really interesting so I clicked on the other reviews from the same product and noticed it.

at the very least reword it morons -__- also I can slightly understand the lazyness when it comes to measurements but really should check your product to see if they are consistent.

I don't know if anything from my reviews here at EF have been swiped. But I do know that parts of my blog; especially toy reviews and erotic stories have been stolen.

What ticks me off the most, is when those theifs turn around and accuse me of stealing my work from them.

Usually I just chuckle, laugh, show the publication date on the blog or the file date, and voila. Proof it's mine and I just skip on off down the yellow brick road singing.

I didn't even think about this, being copied. There have been a few things that I have copied, but it was something that was already on the product page that I reuse in my reviews. Stuff like the ingredients or size of things. If there is something in the material description that is important about how to use/clean or store, then I will copy and paste that into my review, but otherwise, my reviews are all my own. I would be pretty ticked off if someone reused my stuff for their review too, only if it was my original stuff. The other stuff (stuff that can be found on the product page) I Don't care if others copy how I write it out. Sometimes its hard to come up with how to put it into words. But that sucks Sorry to hear you're having issues with others copying your stuff. Thats not good!

I should add to this that I have never copied anyone elses work as far as personal experience or anything having to do with their other descriptions lol. I don't want anyone yelling at me thinking I do this! lol!!!1 Its just the "tech type stats" about the product. All the wording and what not is my own. Sometimes I will look at others reviews to make sure that I have covered everything tho. Sometimes I will forget that it has a certain feature or can be used for something else, and I will add that into mine, but wording is original. When I was doing the standard lay out, my stuff was all over the place as far as "grouping" any information together, so I doubt anyone would copy mine lol....its somewhat messy work if you ask me LOL. Now that I use the extended format, its MUCH easier to make sure that I include everything!

Copying from the product page IS plagiarism.

During editing, I found a few reviews were they copied from the product page, the material guide line, and others reviews. I did have at least one review of mine actually copied. I emailed Jr and it was gone within 5 minutes. I had a student copy parts out of someone's review, but of course, I didn't fund out about it until I graduated them. I totally would have failed a student for that.

JR has already responded, but I would also caution against this because sometimes the info on the product page is wrong. When we're talking girth and weight, ¼" here and 1-2oz. there, adds up to a big difference.

I am fairly new to the review program so I doubt anybody has copied anything of mine yet. I would be pissed if that happened. Sorry people do that to you - that sucks

That stinks! I am so sorry that this is happening! Like some of you, I live to look at reviews for inspiration, but would never directly copy anything. With such a large, diverse community of reviewers, there are bound to be similarities in wording or formatting, but word for word is just not cool. I don't know if any of mine have been copied and I assure all of EF that any similarity to any of my reviews to any others is pure coincidence. I have great respect for this community and it's members and would never take advantage of the great folks I have met here by copying their work.

I do have a question though...when I first started reviewing, I read tons before hand to get an idea of what was expected. Almost all of them I read had copied and pasted some sections from the product description pages, mainly the material listing and measurements/stats. I did the same for many of my first reviews, as it seemed the norm. I did a review for the Vibrating Leo (which is actually still pending, even though it's been amended) and it was not published because I had included those sections. I found it odd that I was asked to change my review because I used those sections, even though many high ranked reviewers do the same. I was happy to change it, and did so. How does everyone feel about this practice?

Yep this is true. I always take my own measurements of things because there have been many times where the product page is wrong. Sometimes it's a big difference too.

I always include what the material is, etc but copy and pasted from the product page? No. Say a piece of lingerie is listed as nylon on the product page. I'll include this in the review, but not just copy it from the product page directly like:

Material: Nylon

Instead, I'll let the reader know that the material is made of nylon whether it is sheer or not, how stretchy the fabric is, and whether or not the material becomes sheerer the more it is stretched.

Also, I always make sure that the material listed on the tag of the outfit is the same as the product page. A few pieces that I recently reviewed were listed as something on the product page but the tag stated a completely different material. When this happens, I'll usually let the reader know in the review that the product page is wrong.

I think it's okay to write about things that are listed on the product page but you have to write it your own way. Like the example above. If the material is listed on the product page as nylon, it's fine to state that it's nylon in the review but expand on it. Tell us more than just what's on the product page.

Also, you have to make sure that the information is correct from the product page because there have been quite a few times where it hasn't been.

I can't really comment on your specific situation because I didn't edit your review but if you have any questions you can always send me a message : )

Thanks for the insight...I have been doing all that on my own now, since it was pointed out, but I still see the direct copy and paste all the time in reviews. It was very misleading to me as a new reviewer and I am sure it is for others as well. More often than not, I see information that is obviously copied from the product pages, even on top reviewer posts, which I think is confusing for newbies. In my case I had no clue I should not be doing it. I am glad I now know and I have adjusted my style to include specific information, with my own twist in the body of my review. The only word I C&P is Phalates (sp) and that's because I can't spell it...and I only copy the single word and verify that the information is correct, and I use it in the body of the review. I don't want to run around being a tattle tale, but I feel that we should all be held to the same standards...should we be reporting small things like C&P of product info?

Don't forget to let an Admin know when the measurements aren't correct. We'd want to make sure that's updated on the site.

I am kind of twirked to join the club of those who have been plagiarized!!!! My awesome mentor discovered the copied review and alerted me as well as the admins. Doesn't take that much extra effort to write your own reviews instead of copying someone else's, geeeeeesh!!!!!

I must say though, that Eden's true colors shine with all of those who have jumped in to stand up for me (including my most excellent mentor)!! Makes me remember why I like hanging out here so much!!!

This would bother me, unless it was just the ingredients/materials type sections. That stuff is the same no matter what, so copy and paste away.

This has never happened to me, but if it did, I would be sure to report it to EF so they could sort out the plagiarism issue and perhaps even ban the offender.
