Ok:

1. At 16, I think that SOME girls are mature enough to date a guy that much older. Not all girls, not most girls, some. And at 23, some guys have not matured much past ... more
Awesome response. Makes my rant look rant-ier.

Agreed!

Totally agree. Not to mention the fact that depending on the state, the young man could be thrown in jail for being with an underage girl.

Hell no it isn't OK. Biologically, other places, other times, maybe. Currently here and now, he'd better bail or he'll likely be posting bail. Her dishonesty won't do much beyond a reduced sentence, ditto on the reverse. Several local cases here, kiss your life goodbye.

This. I also agree with DeliciousSurprise.

Now, I really can't say anything considering the fact that I don't know said people, their families, their personalities, etc.

In some cases, relationships like this CAN work out - it's really just the maturity factor. Some girls /can/ know what they want at that age, you know.

But in most cases it usually won't. Considering that the guy is 23, he's lived a bit longer, and I'm sure that he wouldn't put up with the girl's... pardon my french, bullsh*t. I've met a lot of 16 year old girls who have the mentality of a 7 year old. This girl seems to be one of them. If you can't be completely HONEST in the first part of your relationship... who knows what she'll do? She's not ready to handle a relationship like this.

Also, @Darling Jen - I don't mean to sound snobby (so please don't think that I'm being like that!) but pedophilia is when someone over the legal age is attracted to PRE-PUBESCENT CHILDREN. Just throwin' that out there!

Someone has already said that. But my point wasn't to get technical with the terms. It was to explain that the law doesn't care one way or the other about how he thought she was mature enough. She's a minor, and below the age of consent in most states, and it's still illegal.
