"Should it be socially acceptable for young females to masturbate and/or use sex toys?"

Yes,absolutely! It's the safest form of sex and it's improving the body image. So it should be socially acceptable for (young) females to masturbate and to use sex toys.

I don't believe sex toys should be legal for only 18+. I live in Connecticut and the age of consent is 16. Why is it that a girl can have sex at 16 but not pleasure herself with a toy until 18? That's illogical.

I've been masturbating since I was a child and I had my first orgasm at 12. My parents encouraged me to masturbate and told me it was healthy and normal for me to do so. I wish more people held these attitudes on the matter. I have a great deal of respect for you for trying to spread sex-positivity and information in your community.

I agree that women should be allowed to masturbate, but I don't know how comfortable I'd be actually teaching my daughter how to do it...I was fine learning on my own!

I feel they should be taught about their bodies but not necessarily HOW to masturbate. The clitoris and g-spot aren't even included in most hs textbooks though! I even know a woman who is 47 and doesn't know where her clitoris is!

I voted yes to the masturbation part. Now if the girl is still a virgin then I would not think toys should be used. If there has been a loss of virginity then I think sex toys would be a better alternative. As a parent my daughters and I are very open to sex talks and if they had lost their virginity I would not have a problem with them exploring sex toys. But before hand I would rather not. Masturbation is a part of every ones life and for there to be such a double standard at this day and age is crazy.

I think that it shows our society's preference for masculinity in the fact that young males masturbating is considered totally acceptable and commonplace, while it's the opposite for females. Personally, I think that our culture telling everyone that females have a low sex drive is responsible for it. I know many women, myself included, that have high sex drives. I think masturbation and toy use SHOULD be allowed for females under 18.

Great question, I didn't really masturbate until I was older.

Yes. I'm a trans man, but I am biologically female as some say, I've masturbated since I was a toddler and remember at this point it was for pleasure too. I remember at 5 feeling ashamed when my mother entered and asked what I was doing, if I was touching my thing (untranslatable kiddy name for clitoris) so I guess I had already gotten the message that it was bad somewhere, because I was also a bit scared.
As for toy use, I'm for it. I guess people should be taught by their parents or school safety related to toys, or have access to information in real life sex shops (though when I first entered one at 18 I got explained all about porous materials and why it was dangerous, so I guess if they were allowed to enter having questions answered wouldn't be a problem!)
There should also be booklets with informations on safety and use available in pharmacies, etc. without having to talk to the pharmacist first (some kids are shy.)
But, well, it seems information and education relating to sex safety in LGBT relationships is already hard to find for teens, at least those without an Internet access. It's really a problem, IMO.

I'm a little weary on the sex toy part, but I masturbated from a young age. It's normal; I'm totally okay with it. With sex toys, I obviously don't want eight year olds to have vibrators, but thirteen up is fine with me if the girl is for the most part mature for her age. Masturbation with sex toys is a HUGE step from masturbating with your hands, IMO. At least, that's how it felt for me.

I think it should definitely be acceptable because I think down the line it would definitely lead to a more open culture about sexuality and everyone's own body. Along those lines I think it would help people open up about themselves in other areas as well.

I agree. I don't think that kids should be punished, condemned, ashamed of masturbation. I remember being young and the first time I masturbated... I didn't know what I was doing but I knew it felt good. Then I got caught once and my mom punished me for it. Like someone said above, it took me years to get to where I feel comfortable masturbating again. Even now... growing up in a "christian" environment... there is a fine line between what's wrong and right as far as masturbation goes. You know, the whole... sex before marriage thing. After being around my new step mom more, she has taught me since I was about... 15 that it IS okay and its nothing to be ashamed of. She says "If you don't know your own body, how is anyone else gonna be able to know it?" (I'm now 20 btw lol) But I have no problems with sex anymore.

Of course it should be acceptable! Everyone should have the right to explore their own bodies. I am very close to my mother and she is respectful and tolerant of my needs. She gives me my privacy, and bought me my first toy at 17.

The results here will be inaccurate because the majority of people on this site masturbate and support masturbation. I would advise against using these statistics.

Good question but I beleive God chose when a girl becomes a woman by the period. That when I think it is acceptable for maturabation and sex toys for self-exploration.

Don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I'm not sure they need to be taught. Admittedly, it's a bit simpler, but guys have figured it out on their own for quite a few years

I think 18 and over is appropriate for people to start using sex toys. I certainly wouldn't encourage my teenagers if I had any to get toys, but masturbation I don't have a problem with.

Sex toys should be allowed for teens. that could make some difference. I know when I was 16 I wish I had proper toys, I would have been much more busy getting to know myself then getting with guys to figure it out(they never helped, that's for sure). I would have appreciated a vibrator so much!
